The Owls were held to just one hit Tuesday night, as the team committed two errors in a 7-1 loss to Florida on the road.
Jake Meiers gave up three runs in the fifth inning, before Bo Logan surrendered his own trio of runs, as the Gators took a commanding lead midway through the contest. Florida managed to bat around the order in the frame after tallying just four hits.
Meiers, who was starting his first game in over a month, hit a batter to lead off the inning, which was followed up with a throwing error from shortstop Mitch Morales. Meiers then fired a wild pitch to load the bases – and the damage was done. Florida would score six runs in total over the inning, as the Owl’s needed three separate pitchers to record the necessary outs.
Bobby Poyner tossed six solid innings for the Gators, giving up just one run off a single hit in the third inning. Nathan Pittman drove in Corey Keller with an RBI single, but besides that, the club’s bats were silent.
The Gators added an insurance run off of Andrew Archer in the seventh, as the Owls used six different arms over the course of the night. FAU’s defense committed two costly errors, which allowed Florida to extend innings on separate occasions.
Meiers (4-3) would be handed the loss, as Poyner (2-3) was awarded the win for a strong midweek performance. Pittman was the only Owl to record a hit, and finished the contest 1-for-4. Ricky Santiago was the victim of two strikeouts, and went 0-for-2. Casey Turegon paced the Gators with 2 RBI’s and was 2-for-5 with a double.
The loss is the third in a row for FAU (28-20, 13-11) and moves the team to 9-8 on the road this season. Florida (27-23, 12-12) has now won the last five meetings between the two schools.
FAU will continue their road swing this weekend, with a three-game series against Sun Belt Conference foe Western Kentucky.

That's a shame. We can down other big teams (Miami, Alabama, etc) but UF always seems to have our number.
Hopefully we can still win enough games to get an at-large, though that seems to be slipping further and further away with each loss.
