Projected Pitchers:

Lynn - RHP Kevin Lee          (3.29 ERA, 1-0)
FAU -  LHP Brandon Rhodes  (2.60 ERA, 3-1)

Game Notes:

The Owls will close out a four game home stand on Tuesday by putting their newly crowned top 25 mark on the line against the Fighting Knights of the Sunshine Conference.

Once at 24th nationally in DII rankings, Lynn dropped a 1-2 series decision to conference opponent Florida Tech (0-5, 4-0, 0-6) last weekend in Melbourne.

The Knights, who are 22-11 overall and 6-3 in leage play, are paced by SR 1B Jason Matusik's .393 mark at the plate. He's also tallied 30 RBI of an impressive 11 doubles. From the power perspective, SR IF Ryan Lashley (.324) has hit five long balls in 2013.

Lynn's pitching staff has compiled a 2.60 ERA overall.

RHP Kevin Lee, who has six appearances and two starts in 2013 will get the nod initially, and Troy Mannebach (4.96, 0-1), who has 17 K's in 16.1 innings of work on the year, is likely to see time as well.

Mitch Morales continues to pave the way for Owl hitters with a .351 average (10th SBC).

Last weekend's sweep of then #24 South Alabama was the first for FAU in conference play since taking three from Louisiana-Lafayette last April in Boca Raton.

After struggling at the plate, 2B Robert Buckley was a big part of that happening. The Coconut Creek native accounted for 2RBI, scored three runs, and hit his first career triple in Saturday's 7-6 win over the Jaguars.

First baseman Mark Nelson is in a three-way tie for 2nd in the Sun Belt with a team best six home runs on the year.

Throwing in relief at Miami in FAU's 6-1 win last week, Brandon Rhodes will get the call on the hill Tuesday. Rhodes picked up the victory for the Owls, retiring all five Canes' batters he went up against, to improve to 3-1 for the season.

Florida Atlantic is in the midst of a season best six game winning streak.

Through three complete:

Lynn 2  FAU 5

Owls have scored in each inning, but Sanger's three run homer in the 2nd is the highlight thus far.

Rhodes tossed two hitless innings, but was touched up in the top half of the 3rd, as the Knights were able to score a pair runs via a two out bunt.

Owls Clip Knights

Final:

Lynn 6 FAU 7

The Owls were able to avoid a mishap Tuesday night, as they squeaked out a 7-6 win over cross-town rival Lynn.

Florida Atlantic entered the contest ranked for the first time since 2004, and almost suffered their worst loss of the year. FAU (20-9, 7-2) jumped out to an early lead, but quickly watched it evaporate against the Knights (22-12).

Thankfully, order was restored in the closing frames of the game, and the Owls were able to extend their win streak to seven games.

Brendon Sanger (photo), who has splashed onto the scene with his bat, hit a three-run home run in the second inning which gave the club an early 4-0 lead after an opening score in the first.

Lynn would respond with two runs of their own in the third inning off of starter Brandon Rhodes, who tossed just three innings of work. The Owls answered in the bottom of the frame with a single from Mitch Morales and the score was 5-2.

Andrew Archer came in for relief of Rhodes in the fourth inning, and surrender a solo home run before being pulled in favor of Alex Koji.

The Knights would connect on their second home run of the night in the top of the sixth, which effectively put them in the lead. Greg Bennis gave up a three-run home run and Lynn led 7-6.

FAU scrapped together a run in the sixth, while Mark Nelson reached base on a fielder's choice in the seventh to score Morales and provide the game winning run.

Bo Logan (2-0) was handed the win after throwing a scoreless seventh, as Michael Sylvetri and Hugh Adams combined to close out the game.

Sanger (pictured above) led the offense with four hits and managed to produce his first career home run with his long ball in the second inning. The freshman went 4-for-5 with three runs-batted-in, three runs scored and a stolen base. Nelson went 2-for-4, while Billy Endris finished 2-for-3.

Adams picked up his ninth save of the season in his eleventh appearance.

The seven-game win streak is the program's longest since 2009, and has good chance to continue this weekend. The Owls will look to extend the streak with a three game series at ULM set to start on Friday.
