How will you do in the SBC?

I think FAU will not do well overall for a couple of years…the players and coaches will learn the hard way that they need to work harder and longer than they do now…this ain't Lipscomb, Belmont and Campell anymore these are real state schools with some serious talent

I do think that FAU will adapt and eventually compete in all sports, but the mentality will have to change first

I hope you were not including football in you comment. Howard no doubt has enough success and experience to know how hard to work the guys. If you know better than you need to show up for practice in about a month and show them what to do.

Mens B'Ball will be OK in the long run. IMHO. They will cycle through some athletes and be competitive in about two years. The SunBelt exposure will attract better athletes who can help with this transition in the near future.

Illinois Owl - I was obviously not including football or swimming because they have already competed successfully in the Sun Belt.
There are many sports that either do no strength and conditioning or the coaches are babying their athletes…the A-Sun was a cozy little conference where that was okay…anyway time will tell but I still stand by my original predictions that it will be an eye opening experience for many of the sports…

Welcome to the board owldaylong.

The majority of any team who move up in competition have some changes to go through. Teams who moved up from the C-USA to the BE had some adjustments. Teams who went from the MAC to the C-USA have some adjustments also. It's all about the level of the competition.

I cant comment on your babying comment. But I can say that teams have a tendency to play and practice at the level of their competition. Where ever that may be.

Thanks for joining us in FAU discussions.

This is the reason 4/11 of the football team's schedule is against BCS teams and are the first 4 games.

the actual reason those 1st four games are against BCS teams is that the athletic department needs the guarantees to make ends meet....the exposure is a nice bonus

It's not all about the dollars in this case. Once the athletic budget is more manageable(most colleges don't have a handle on theirs either), you'll see that the schedule will still have some tough opponents. Check coach Schnelly's record for bringing programs into the big time. You'll see that his Miami and Louisville tough scheduling brought the perfect results. Winning traditions.

The interesting thing about Miami's was they were an independent at that time. Their entire schedule was tough teams. It was rated as toughest in the country. They were playing Pittsburgh (with Marino) , Oklahoma, FSU and other top schools. Look at the result.

I assure you for Schnelly the money is a bonus. As was stated by O.G. and Illinoisowl he always has and will play tough schedules. His past alone dictates that and not just from the Miami days back to the "Bears" days. I grew up in Miami and was a "U" season ticket holder and he took over Miami, . the money wasn't what he was after. He was there to build a championship team. He is all about turning boys to men, helping them understand what it takes to build character and play with heart. Remember that to be a champion you must play like a champion and to do that you must play the best.
