Lady Owls Dance Game on TV

Both bands are there. FAU's band sounds very good, when you can hear it over the announcers and canned music of ESPN.

Finally toward the end of the game, the ESPN camera zoomed in on the FAU band, and at the very end, the cheerleaders, dancers and mascot. But that was it. Numerous times, ESPN focused on the LSU band, sections of fans, but showed nothing of FAU until near the end. The FAU band looked sharp in its red polos, so it had to be intentional not to show them.

The band, cheerleaders and dance team are mostly likely going to stay another night (no complaints from them), since the last plane to South Florida is scheduled to leave Nashville around 7:20 p.m. (Edit: They were told they were staying over and to enjoy themselves Saturday night; then later rumors spread about an immediate flight home. They rushed to pack up and got in at 10:30 p.m.)

If the Owls could have controlled their wild passing and inability to hit from underneath the rim, they might have been in the game - at least longer than they were. I can't count the number of missed layups and intercepted passes.

But the Owls portrayed FAU in a good light - tightening the score in the "fourth quarter" and playing some good defense - and pushed the university even more into the national spotlight. Even the "BCS is everything" commentators had some nice things to say about Dugan and the team. Congratulations to them for a great season and lots of great things to come - especially due to their young age and a better new conference.

I have the game on TiVo, in case anyone wants a DVD.

I caught the game on ESPN2 - same observation as bmarkey and I know LSU's defense is very good and has kept some very good teams at or below 50 pts/games this season, but we did miss some easy point opportunities. I like the way the team hung in their till the end.

Great effort lady Owls and great season!!

I mostly noticed the wild passes FAU would throw into middle traffic. Almost every time, an LSU player woud end up with the ball. Then, numerous times, an LSU player would just grab the ball from one of the FAU handlers and zip the other way for an easy basket. That was the cause of the 20-0 run, for sure.

It was like the Owls were not used to the speed of the defense or just too starry-eyed to comprehend what was happening.

Add to that something like 10 missed lay-ups and easy shots that clanged out, and you have the points gap.

In the second part of the second half, FAU settled down again and made up some points. The women really seemed to be concentrating and ended the game on a respectable note. Congrats to them for getting there and raising FAU's worth nationally.

I found it pretty ironic that the women made the Dance after the men and Doherty got all the P.R. and press all season long.

One thing I noticed was speed, LSU was flying every where, in transition, passing and the ball movement was great, when you play a team like LSU and you are not use to playing at a higher level like LSU was it's easy to be overwhelmed a bit.

Still a good reward for the seniors and the team for that matter on the trip to the Dance, now did the bug hit the rest of the players on wanting to get back to the dance, the trip just got harder with the move to the SBC.

Good game ladies! You gave it your best try.

Looking forward to seeing you at the tournament next year.

Oooooooooh. You know you'll probably have to get through us in order to do that. ;)

Seriously though, beating us would be huge for your program. Middle Tennessee has become like the reincarnate of Louisiana Tech during their glory days in the Sun Belt.

Next year we return all but one starter. The Sun Belt Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Sun Belt Tournament MVP will be returning and we're bringing in a class that is currently ranked 13th in the nation on top of a class that we brought in this season that ranked 10th.

It will definitely be a trial by fire for Florida Atlantic being placed in what is without a doubt one of the toughest divisions of any non-BC$ conference in women's college basketball–the Sun Belt East Division along with us, Western Kentucky, and Florida International.

I'm pretty darn anxious to see what happens in 'Belt play next season with women's hoops.
