Doherty's Recruiting Class Grows
Brent Crews signs with Owls.
July 26, 2005
BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University men's basketball head coach Matt Doherty announced Brent Crews has signed a grant-in-aid to play for the Owls beginning with the 2005-06 season. Crews is a 6-1, 210 guard who played for Chipola College in Marianna, FL, the past two years.
"We are excited to bring Brent into our basketball family," said Doherty. "He comes from a winning program at Chipola. His experience, talent and leadership will add a lot of value to FAU Basketball."
Crews was part of one of the most successful stretches in Chipola basketball history. He helped lead the Indians to back-to-back state and NJCAA Region VIII championships. As a freshman, he helped lead Chipola to a 32-5 record and a sixth-place finish nationally. Last year, the Indians went 33-4 and finished fourth in the nation.
Crews was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2005 state tournament. Chipola is a member of the Panhandle Conference in the Florida Community College Activities Association (FCCAA).
Doherty has now signed five players since taking over as FAU's head coach on April 18. Crews joins Kevin Green (Jr, 5-11, 175, Philadelphia, PA/Santa Fe C.C.), Paul Graham (Fr, G, 6-4, 185, Philadelphia, PA/Philadelphia Lutheran), Carlos Monroe (Fr, F, 6-7, 235, Cape Coral, FL/Cape Coral HS), and DeAndre Rice (Jr, G, 6-3, 200, Flint, MI/Frank Phillips College).
