I would expect better OC games now that MD is here and is looking to bring this program up.
The SBC will provide better competition then the A-Sun, but MD should also get a chance to bring in better players - again he is in a re-build type of situation which will take a few years to bring the team and program in a good position to have better OC results against better competetion.

Like Ghost mentioned, right now we shouldn't be to concerned with those OC games, but instead concentrate on conference play - good quality OC game will happen and in time we can establish a good OC record in return, but getting in the Big Dance should be THE Goal we have every year and for FAU it is an up-hill battle every year, because we have one way in -win our Conference.

Th good part is this current has yet to show us their best complete game - I do think that it remains a work in progress just waiting for a break out series.

In my opinion, you need to schedule your OOC games according to the playing level of your team. You can't put Florida, Miami, Wake Forest, and Florida St. on a non-conference schedule. The games won't be competitive and it is bad for team moral to get beat by 50 every game. Unlike Football, the non conference schedule isn't made up years in advance. I believe that it's more important that you schedule games that you have a chance to win to get your team more exposure and NCAA tournament appearances. Next year we go into the Sun Belt, which is an extremely tough conference in basketball compared to the A-Sun. I'd expect to see the same type of non conference schedule. Once we've established ourselves as a power in the Sun Belt, we can establish ourselves as a national power, like a Gonzaga.

Unfortunately, even though the SunBelt is a major step up, it remains a one-team "Big Dance" conference.

I can't understand why two or even three Sunbelt teams don't go, but in the past decade or so, only one SunBelt team has moved on. Now, two teams last year went to the NIT, so that's a bit of a perk.

I wish the NCAA would discover fairness and keep some of the lower-rung SEC and other teams out of the dance and allow some top SunBelt teams in.

western kentucky is usually a boaderline team to get in when the don't win their tourney.

Everyone has there opinion but the fact is we need to win nonconfernce games vs. marist and other midmajor programs just increase our rpi ranking so hopefully we can get a seed under ten in the future. out of 32 conferences the asun is ranked 30th. the sunbelt is 16th. And that's because FIU is bringing them down a lot.

If we schedule 6 nonconference games, figure two are against ranked oppenents, we lose we should be winning the other games against midmajor programs. Plus will be invited to tournaments more often now.
were also going to have it easier in the nonconfernce because doherty doesn't want to travel to vegas to play unlv (a reason for sidney to play the slots). He will do a trip to NYC, play marist, maybe a st. johns and do some heavy recruiting. that's it. there are plenty of teams that come to florida and do UM, UF, FSU, USF type a trip and we can pick up a game or two before or after they play one/two of them.

next year we should be pretty good. There is center called williams that is 7 foot, doherty had his eye on him, jc guy. we have some good recruits and a solid foundation. We need to get some help for our new guy jeff parmer 6'8 on the inside and we could be legit.
07-08 season we could be a ranked team.

my buddy is the assistant at UMASS. Its a small world out there. We were actually going to play UMASS at home this year but Doherty said no because they passed him on the job. They hired the coach from Eastern Kentucky instead.
I also have a friend who's marist alum/booster, i know there trying to have the FAU game at Madison "the worlds most famous arena" Square Garden. Doherty is loved in NY. He's going to get some good recruits from there in the future.

We just need somewhere respectable to play and doherty will do the rest.

Last time I checked, the SunBelt last had two NCAA tourney teams 10 or so years ago. So it's win the tourney or go home (or, maybe, to the NIT).
