I've got a friend named Chris Coleman who's right up near that 7ft mark. He tried out for a walk on but didnt make the team but Coach D kept him with the team as a manager. I think his shot of making the team this year is better. I think there may be photos of him somewhere on this board, playing tuba in the marching band.

It is linked because here is an FAU coach seeking out a job at another school and apparently the school thinks nothing of it. Yet, a lesser instance happened in a non-sport and the offender was canned.

I brought it up because this was the first time (since the director's firing) that a similar incident happended - this time without consequence to the offender. Because none of you feel that is unfair, I'll just shut up - until it happens again.

I remember seeing that guy in a picture from last football season on one of the threads. The guy not only is tall, he is big. Kinda dwarfs the tuba. Just a guess, a big guess, that might be the reason Doherty didn't go after a big center. JUST A GUESS!!!

I understand why it was brought up again. I just don't see the relevance here. Are the situations similar, maybe, but it is not the same department of the University. I'm sure each department of the college has different rules or ways of handling this sort of thing. What is acceptable in some places on campus, may not be in others. The way the athletic department is run is certainly different than say the english department. Coaches under contract interview for jobs all the time. That's the nature of the business. I personally don't know how it works with band directors, or what other circumstances were involved.

My point is that I just don't understand why the topic keeps popping up here. It's not that I think what happened wasn't unfair, I honestly don't know. Like in other workplaces i'm sure that people have been unfairly at FAU, but I don't see any purpose being served by continuing to address it on a board about the athletic programs.

To be perfectly honest, I really don't care all that much who is directing the band, but that isn't your problem. You have every right to post what you please. Perhaps we can start a new thread or separate board about the band for those who are interested.

Just putting my 2 cents - There is a certain protocal that must be followed if an outside party , for example, BYU when they courted Angelos that must be follow and one of those is they must ask permission to have an opportunity to talk to the party of interest. If Green & Angelos where granted permission to talk to other parties of interest, then I would believe that the Band Director would have been given the same chance, however, I have no knowledege of his contract with FAU and I still find it hard to believe that him applying for another position elsewhere got him canned, unless he did not follow proper protocal. I still feel that there is some issues that have not been made publicas the reason why he as let go, any University these days must be VERY carefull how they dismiss someone.

One of the reason Doherty is here is because of Rex's, when he called Doherty letting him know of the Golden opportunity here at FAU, so we have much to be thankful in Rex being here besides his coaching abilities. I am sure that Rex got Doherty's permission to talk to outside parties and again Doherty wanted Rex by his side, so I am sure it was not an easy choice for Doherty to make, but you can't hold back someone that can further his career. It will be a sad day for FAU indeed if Rex does decide to move on and we should have full confidence in Doherty to find a suitable replacement if that day comes. For now Rex is still an Owl and that should be good enough.

I donno. I cant tell you his weight, cause I dont know it, but I dont think he really is that big. Just tall. And yea, he does dwarf the tuba. haha ;D

Your right Bytor on all counts about Rex and Matt.First of all that would be disrepectful to Matt and really kind of S%$@y.
