In a polar opposite of Saturday’s 15.5 per contest hitting average, Florida Atlantic was held to just six on Sunday in a 10-5 loss to Arkansas-Little Rock at FAU baseball Stadium.

The loss gives the Trojans (24-23, 10-14) the Sun Belt series victory and marks their second straight after sweeping Western Kentucky last weekend.

Conversely, FAU drops their second straight series at home and have lost six of the last eight games. They now find themselves needing to finish strong for any hopes of an at large consideration should they not win the league tournament and receive the automatic bid.

Aside from allowing Tyler Rocklein to reach first on a wild pitch in which he struck out swinging, Little Rock RHP Blake Huffman kept the Owls off the base path through a full seven innings.

The Trojans took a 1-0 in the top half of the second inning, and later added five runs in the third.

Starter Kyle Miller (L, 3-1) tossed his final inning in the fourth before being replaced by Alex Koji who threw two innings allowing two more runs to the visitors. Miller struck out nine UALR batters.

Greg Bennis took the hill for the seventh frame, Hugh Adams the eighth, and seldom used Jimmy Tornabene finished off the contest. Tornabene was touched up for a pair of scores in the Trojan’s last turn at the plate, including a solo homer.

FAU (28-29, 13-11) finally put some digits on the board in the eighth. Brendon Sanger and Levi Meyer connected for back-to-back singles. After Mike Spano’s fielder’s choice, Ricky Santiago then drove in Sanger and Nathan Pittman singled  to plate the waiting Spano.

In the ninth Meyer sent a double into the outfield to score two runs, and Santiago connected for his second straight RBI single.

Designated hitter Caleb Jobe was 2-of-3 with 3RBI and a run scored to lead UALR.

The Owls will next travel to Gainesville for a Tuesday meeting against the University of Florida. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
