Series Thread: FAU vs North Carolina

The main issue most have with having a band and cheeleaders at the baseball game is that it is just very un traditional for the sport.

So freaking what?!

FAU is trying to make a name and get students and fans involved. What better way than to entertain them between innings or plays, draw people who might otherwise not attend, and fire up the crowd with FAU cheers?

If you don't like it, just shut your trap and live with it. It's a good thing, despite your ridiculous complaints.

Most every true FAU fans would welcome the support and effort, regardless of "tradition". FAU should make its own tradition and this is one way to break out of the mold.

Any derogatory remarks toward these butt-busting student groups is uncalled for and classless.

The band and cheerleaders should NOT be at the baseball games, it makes us look silly.  I also don't think telling him to shut his trap was necessary either, it's just an opinion which we are all entitled to here.

The only thing thats looks "silly" here is your whining (about something positive), unappreciative attitude.

Maybe you ought to pay more attention to what a few FAU fans did to hurt the school's image, rather than rip happenings that actually improve it.

Cmon BMarKey, I know you're a little biased in this situation, I did say in the same post that you only quoted part of that I did think they did a good job.  And believe it or not I appreciate the time and effort that your daughter, the other band members and the dance and cheerleaders do for the school more than most.  However it is my personal opinion and I think the same of a few others that it was just kind of odd having a band at a baseball game.  And that is nothing whatsoever against the band or cheerleaders which i also said before.  I know it was the athletic depts idea and hey what can I say, they did get 1600 people out to the game.  I played 2 years of ball at Georgia Southern playing against SEC,ACC and of course Southern Conf teams and ive never seen a band at a college baseball game.  Sorry but it was just weird having a band at a college baseball game for me.

Roscoe, never apologize for having and stating an opinion.

I was standing next to the first base line and overheard comments from both UNC players and the umpires cracking jokes or asking what a band was doing at the baseball game.

The first and second basemen were going back and forth about it through most of the game.  Asking each other at one point "Hey, where's the parade anyway?"

It was a terrible idea from the get go.

If FAU wants to try and break molds and get people out to the game, I'm all for it.  However, having the band perform in between innings was like trying to put a round peg in a small hole.  I thought the national anthem was cool, in between innings was a bad idea.

Maybe the band can play before the game, hold a version of a pep rally and have the players go to the dugout room through an alley of cheerleaders, band members and fans wishing them good luck. If showcasing the band is what they are after, this might be a good way to do that.

I have no problems with the band, realize they were doing what was asked and that's all there is to it.

This isn't an assault on the band at all, it's discussing the piss poor idea.  All those who disagree with those of us who agree it was a bad idea, not a problem… glad you have an opinion, I wish more people did.

Like things, love people.

There was no whining on my part, just an opinion.  My opinion and that of many others is that it looks silly and ridiculous to have a band play during the game PERIOD.

You need to lighten up Bob.  Yours isn't the only opinion on this board, your a bit of a hot head too.

Re: Series Thread: FAU vs North Carolina

I think the point about not having the band and cheerleaders/dance team at baseball games has been made just by the fact that you are all talking about the band and cheerleaders/dance team at the game instead of talking about baseball.

For what it's worth, I don't.

This isn't a shot at the band and I understand BMarkey that you stick up for them, but no one is knocking the band, I think we all have a much appreciated respect for them and the job they do. Sitting in the sun in their uniforms playing their hearts out on the football field I'm sure is not easy. I know they just didn't say "Hey I know a good way to piss off everyone on the FAUOwlsNest, lets perform at the baseball game" They go where they are told and before I go on I want to make sure the band takes no offense to any of my comments. You guys are great and I love the passion that you have.

However, I don't believe they belong at a baseball game. Even members of the band said they don't agree with it. Lets say UMass' band was set to perform opening day at Fenway park, do you think the players on the field on both teams would say "This is a great tradition and I hope they come to more games"? The fans in the stands would either boo the band and then the Sox would be the laughing stock of baseball. You'd hear Wilbon and Kornheiser talking about it on PTI and everyone would laugh at that notion that a band was at a baseball game.

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Everyone may want to read Coach Clooney's post before they go much further in this debate.
