Owls
Florida Atlantic (13-4) followed up a weekend sweep of Seton Hall with two more home wins, topping North Florida by scores of 14-1 and 10-9. Over the last four contests, the team has outscored their opposition 45-13, and the last two games featured 10 FAU home runs.
All told now, 11 Owls have hit 17 home runs, led by Tyler with four and three by Gunnar Lambert. The squad has 30 additional extra base hits (25 doubles and five triples). Over the last five games, the team batting average (.250) has risen 32 points with almost double the amount of the extra base hits (24 to 47).
Three FAU Players find themselves above the .300 threshold at the plate in Pedro Pages (.343), Joe Montes (.333), and Frank (.302).
Starting ptichers Jake Miednik, Kyle Marman and Vince Coletti are a combined 8-2 with a 1.39 ERA, walking a total of just 10 batters versus 91 strikeouts. As of Monday, Marman ranked No. 1 in Division I with his four wins, is fourth among all pitchers with a 19.5:1 strikeout to walk ratio, and is ninth with 39 strikeouts.
Monarchs
Old Dominion (7-9) enters the weekend on a roll offensively, having scored a combined 30 runs in the last two games. The Monarchs are hitting .309 as a club, which ranks 19th in the nation.
Individually, Vinnie Pasquantino is coming off of a historic performance in the win over VMI. The 2017 Freshman All-American went 6-for-6, tying the school record for hits, with two doubles, a home run and five RBI.
Culver Lamb and Matt Schwarz have also led ODU offensively. Lamb is hitting a team-leading .364 with seven extra-base hits, while Schwarz is hitting .361 with 12 RBIs and five stolen bases.
On the mound, Sunday starter Morgan Maguire is 2-1 with a 3.42 ERA and Saturday starter Brett Smith has 14 strikeouts in his last two starts. Freshman Erik Stock is projected to make his first collegiate start on Friday.

The Owls have now won six straight games with a 59-20 advantage in run production during the span, and have posted 10 or more for the last five games in a row.

Need to get a better start from Miednick though, 8K in six great but also 8 hits and 4 ER, that would be an ERA of 6!
Another thing to consider is that it was a bit cold, 50° at the start and probably a few degrees less in the 5th. Pitchers lose feel for the ball in their fingertips when it is cold, and the impact of the difference is more notable with the better pitchers - it's really difficult to deflate a baseball to compensate. He still threw a bit over 63% strikes, which most pitchers would consider a very good game - though Jake has been sitting at an astounding 70%. I'm guessing about 6-8 pitches that would have normally broken into the paint area stayed just off, and a few more stayed up a tad more rather than breaking down. It's a lot easier for a pitcher to adapt from cold weather to warm than from warm to cold. We never even had a practice anywhere near that cold.
