SERIES THREAD: Maine @ FAU - Mar 11-12, 2014

This FAU baseball team is very good. BUT,,,,,they need to start hitting and scoring more. Last night we left a ton of runners on and the same in Texas. We won't win unless we score more. Pitching can't win every game. We need offense !

The grounding into DPs seems to come in spurts. When we hit into a GDP in the 5th inning of Saturday's first game, that was the first time to do so in 81 innings (starting in the 2nd game against Monmouth - the 6th game of the season). There was a 64 INT 3 called due to interference in the first game against St John's, but when the batter is called out by interference on a preceding runner, that does not count as a GDP and only a DP. In fact, during that 81-inning stretch, the only other DPs we hit into were an L43 in the second game vs St John's and a failed sac bunt attempt that turned into an L13 in the first game against Boston College.  However, since that first GDP at UTSA, we're into a spurt of them again.  We had three that game first game Saturday, in the 5th, 6th, and 8th, and two in the last game at UTSA, in the 6th and 9th. Then, last night, we added two more, in the 4th and 8th. This spurt of seven in three games is, by far, our worst three-game stretch of the year. It will slow down, and, hopefully, we'll soon enter another extended period of dormancy with the GDP.

Great job tracking all that!

From the play by play it seems like a lot more, and especially when we are losing games. We need to break out of the bad streak and start swining at better pitches with runners on base, definately not the pitcher's pitch, he is suppossed to be getting grounders, especially at that point, trying to get out of trouble and out of the inning. We don't wanna be helpin him.
