The Owls will welcome in the nationally ranked Trojans for an important weekend conference slate beginning Friday. Troy is currently ranked 22nd by baseballamerica.com and 27th by ESPN.

Florida Atlantic is coming off a 1-2 series loss at ASU that featured solid pitching and runs that were tough to come by. The Trojans swept Western Kentucky last weekend, but fell in a mid week road match up to UAB 4-3 in a tight one.

FAU's Alex Hudak continues to pace the way amongst all Sun Belt batters with his .397 average, while Raymond Church (.380) is just one of two players sporting double digits in both RBI (13) and runs scored (15).

The Trojans, who have employed over 34 different batting orders on the year, make a living on the mound and lead the league with thier 2.99 team ERA. They are paced by Tyler Ray's sitngy 1.47 ERA.

However, they do have a strong contributor at the plate in Adam Bryant. Bryant is sprinkled across multiple Belt stats categories including RBI (40, 3rd), Runs Scored (39, 4th), Doubles (18, 1st), and Total Bases (92, 4th).

Owl first baseman Dan Scheffler, who had been sidelined since early April with a nose injury, received good news when his personal doctor cleared him on Tuesday. The FAU team doctor followed suit on Thursday and Scheffler is expected back in the line-up against the Trojans. Coach McCormack had expressed some reservations towards a starting role on Friday for the first baseman, but says he will see action. The return puts Scheffler two weeks ahead of the original expected return of the UALR series.

FAU leads the all-time series 22-14 over the Trojans and are 11-4 in games played in Boca Raton. Troy dropped two of three to Florida Atlantic at Riddle-Pace last season. The Owls are undefeated in league play at home in thier last eight straight games.

Sunday's contest welcomes Delray Beach Little League Day at the Ballpark.

After a 1.5 hour rain delay pushed back the start of game one, the Owls find themselves in another one…lightning in the area behind a fast moving storm that rolled through Boca Raton…this one could go into the wee hours if it plays out.

6-3 Troy, top of the fourth, for now.

The second rain delay puts a halt to game one.

After a one-two-three first inning from FAU starter Ryan Garton, the Trojans exploded for six runs off eight hits in the second until Garton was pulled with two outs in favor of Taylor Everist. He had already tossed 50 pitches when he departed.

Taylor quickly got out of the inning immediately thereafter, striking out the next batter.

An error by Troy’s Adam Bryant set up a three run bottom half of the third for FAU as Raymond Church singled off Trojan ace Tyler Ray driving in Mike Albaladejo. Alex Hudak followed that with two RBI single of his own, plating Nathan Pittman and Andy Mee and cutting the deficit in half for the home team.

The game will resume tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. in the top of the fourth inning with one out, and will be followed by game two thirty minutes afterwards.

• Nick DelGuidice tied the program’s all-time career doubles mark set by William Block (55) in the bottom of the second.

• Dan Scheffler returned to action, starting at first base.

The Owls (25-18, 12-8) split on Saturday, losing Friday's suspended game 9-7 before taking game two 15-9 from the Trojans (31-12, 15-5).

After resuming game one, FAU rallied from a 9-3 deficit in the eighth and ninth innings, with the tying run at the plate on both occasions. The deficit would be cut to two runs when Andy Mee scored on a single by Raymond Church, but that was as close as the Owls would come.

FAU posted a season-high 21 hits in game two, taking an early 8-0 lead in the second inning which saw 12 Owls step into the batters box.

Troy scored their first two runs in the third, but Florida Atlantic continued its offensive widening the margin to 12-2 in the fourth.

However, the Trojans would close the gap later when FAU reliever Josh Gonzaga surrendered a three run blast to Boone Shear narrowing the score to 14-8.

Paul Davis moved his record to 8-1 on the season with the win while remaining undefeated at home with a perfect mark of 6-0. Davis struck out five batters, allowing four runs on seven hits.

Mee and Colby Gratton each went 4-of-6 with two RBI's in game two, and Nick DelGuidice added a 3-of-5 and two RBI performance as well.

FAU will look to secure the series in game three tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.

Re: Series Thread - Troy vs FAU: Apr 29 - Mar 1, 2011

FAU (26-18, 13-8) takes the series with an impressive showing 7-1 on Sunday. Troy (31-13, 15-6) out hit the home team 11-8, but had a difficult time converting them into scores.

After the Trojans took a brief 1-0 lead in the top of the second, FAU went to work offensively in the bottom of the frame when a Nathan Pittman single to right scored Dan Scheffler for the Owls' first run. A bases loaded walk later made it 2-0 before Troy starter Jimmy Hodgskin worked his way out of the jam.

But the big inning was the fifth, when FAU's first three batters (Colby Gratton, Raymond Church, and Scheffler) reached to load the bags for Nick DelGuidice. DelGuidice then provided the highlight of the day, smacking a grand slam to extend the margin to 6-1.

Sean Bukovich's solo homer in the eighth inning accounted for the Owls' last run. It was his first of the season.

Trojan's Catcher Todd McRae went 4-of-4, scoring the lone run for Troy in the loss.

R.J. Alvarez tossed five innings for Florida Atlantic before giving way to a trio of relievers in Ahmed Garcia, Andy Mee, and Hugh Adams.

The Owls will next travel to Western Kentucky. Game one of the series is Friday at 7:00 p.m.
