SMU Press conference live 3:30 EST or so

Ghost,

I agree that we can do better than Angelos….but first things first, we need a coach. I am hoping for Rex, mostly because I hope that it helps keep the recruiting class.

As for Angelos….His best moment as FAU AD was hiring Doherty, and now that is over before it really started. The football program, while successful for the most part on the field, cannot gain any momentum off of it (tickets, marketing-wise). Baseball still is in desperate need of facilities. While I understand that he cannot change everything himself, what exactly has the man done? Of course I have no numbers to prove it, but has the Owl Club raised the money needed? I would just like to see some progress being made beyond a nice video of a dome.

He still has to come back and clean his office out doens't he? He still hasn't tendered his resignation. Surely he won't email or fax it.

The part "FAU has no comittment to win". Where does that come from? Why does he think they fired Green and let him hire more people then Green had? I'm just blowing off steam.

I missed the conference. Did he actually say that?? "FAU has no comittment to win". If so, I have no respect for him as a coach or a person. You need to leave with a little bit of class. This shows no class on his part. We all knew this wouldn't last, I'd leave to 400K more as well. But throwing down statements to trash a university who gave you a shot to come back is unprofessional. Now, I'm glad he's gone if he did say that. I can't wait to see what he says about SMU at his next conference as another school's head coach.

Angelos has done basically nothing as far as I can see. The only programs that have really progressed are our track/cross-country, swimming and women's hoops rograms, and that's 99.9% because of the efforts of their stellar coaches:

Football - hard to say because of our recent move to I-A
Baseball - having the worst year in a while. I know we've had injuries, but Cooney has been carrying the program on his back without the help of the dept. Badly need facilities.
Softball - coming off the program's worst season in 10 years…have progressed a little this year, but still not back to where we were…i.e. ranked.
Tennis - new coach, same old story….we live in a state where you can play tennis 365 days a year and we haven't exactly lit up the A-Sun. FIU are making us look real bad.
Soccer - women finally won a title last year. Men haven't done anything under Donev. He needs to go too.
Swimming - seem to be the consistently getting better. Kudos to Eckelkamp
Hoops - well, women are obviously on the way up…the men were, until today.
Golf - slowly improving….great find in this Thai girl who finished third at conference.
Volleyball - back to where they were in previous years….still have room for improvement however…need to get to level of UCF's domination in the TAAC/A-Sun.

Doherty didn't say that specifically, but he mentioned the fact that SMU has "commitment" so many freakin' times, that he was basically implying that FAU has no commitment to winning.

SMU has $400,000 worth of commitment more than FAU. It would have been nice to at least have made an attempt to keep the guy. I'm not expecting them to match that price, but at least a public effort could have shown "commitment to winning."

Fascinating stuff folks. But, in context of all, perhaps it is better than he has left FAU.

Anyone who has time, do a web search for some of the public pronouncements by the former coach, those about loyalty, building a program, staying to see it through, etc. Then consider those in the context of what Southern Methodist University requires of its students. SMU's official student Honor Code declares, in part:

I find all this talk about COMMITMENT rather funny, because I don't think that Doherty even knows the definition, he left ladies and gentlemen before he honored his commitment he made to FAU - one year of a seven year deal please!!!!

Not having heard the press conference, I can only guess he is probably over compensating on one of the points was questioned about in his interview. No doubt SMU questioned why he has moved around so much, other than UNC. Now he's repeating commitment over and over to convince SMU he is sincere. I'm sure his temper was a point also.

Don't turn your back SMU he might just slice his way into your spine. I was a very big supporter of Matt, thought this is great for him to get a second chance and build a program he can put his name on.
He is a fly by night Gypsy, Liar and two faced SOB. Not only is he going but the B@%$&*D is stripping the program of the coach's.

The kids out there are going to buy into this guys crap and his whining little Hiny poor mouthing sniveling idiot. I hope Rex distance himself from this two faced ass. I hope Rex has more CLASS then this guy and if Angelos doesn't hand Rex the Keys to the Arena then kick his ass out too.

What ethics this guy has,and I guarantee if and only if he does anything he will be gone in two years max. Especially if it is one of the big boys. Or do you think they (the big boys) will look at him and say. This guy is unreliable, untrustworthy and and Liar. Better not take a chance.

This isn't just business this is absolutely pathetic and I personally wish you only the worst.
