UM-FAU

I can sometimes accept a morale victory for our football or basketball programs, but FAU baseball is already an upper tier program, not top but upper in most eyes that follow college baseball.  Its hard to be happy with giving up 16 runs and 11 walks to anybody no matter how high they are ranked.  Maybe i have too high of expectations. In other news FAU is also getting really out recruited by all the other florida schools especially FIU.

Re: UM-FAU

Oh I'll disagree Roscoe. Where do you base this information off of?  You should know how hard it is to recruit  in baseball as you played yourself.  Every year we have 2 or 3 recruits agree to come to FAU but then opt for the draft.  Nevertheless, we are nationally recognized every year.

Cooney and John McCormack, associate head coach and recruiting coordinator, have brought in a talented group of new players. Newcomer Colby Gratton (Miami, FL/Southridge High School) impressed in the fall, earning MVP honors in FAU's Fall World Series. Gratton and Tom Hatcher (Marietta, GA/Chipola Community College), the Panhandle Conference Player of the Year at Chipola Community College in 2007, should add depth to an FAU offense that pushed across eight runs a game last season.

Sorry, shoulda been more specific.  I was talking about next years recruiting class.  Heres a link to one ranking.

http://www.pgcrosschecker.com/collegebaseball/2008/rankings/college_recruit_rankings_32108.aspx

According to this ranking our only top 200 recruit is coming here on a football scholly if im not mistaken.  I know college baseball recruiting is very difficult, most of the better recruits will come from transfers from junior colleges and it seems that is what Cooney likes to look for. And i dont know if this poll includes those recruits. Still i hate to see us getting out recruited by FIU in anything including baseball.  Hard to admit it but FIU pretty much has us beat in nicer facilities in just about every major sport.  This plays a huge advantage when recruiting for any sport especially accompanied with a more traditional college atmosphere that FIU provides.

"…but take the good with the bad when you have to!"

not to get off subject, because that is not my aim here, but this was my exact stance on the basketball season this past year…

and for someone reason alot of folks kept throwing this stance under the bus…*vroom-vroom*…….

anyway, i agree! :)

Re: UM-FAU

The thing that's really tough is great players either go to a college where they'll get national exposure and help out their draft status or they go to the draft out of high school.

FAU is middle of the road with that, so our great players generally enter the draft.  See Chris Volstad, Jared Saltalamacchia.

I didn't know about those rankings, but remember… most of our guys come from JC's.

Re: UM-FAU

Roscoe… that top recruit they list for us isn't even a baseball recruit.  He's got a scholarship to play football. Should tell ya something right there.  ???

Re: UM-FAU

He's coming on a football scholly, if he even comes.  He is also a very highly touted baseball player that is predicted to be a fairly high pick in the draft.
