UPDATE: SBC TOURNAMENT STATE OF THE UNION - We're In!

In 1995, the Owls became eligible for post season play at the D1 level…since then, they have never missed a Conference tournament.

There is always the chance for a "first" in life, and we may see that this year as the Owls seemingly need to win out or pay the piper this year by while retiring the bats early.

Bottom line(s):

If FAU wins out (6-0) sweeping ASU and FIU, they finish 14-15 and would make the tournament.

Win five and they then lose control of their own destiny and must have help.

Re: SBC TOURNAMENT STATE OF THE UNION: Hanging by a thread...

We are getting some help with other teams losing…still alive as it stands…got this info from FAU Media Relations this morning:

WKU, MTS, FIU, and Troy - clinched tournament berths

ULAR - eliminated

A win today against ASU combined with a WKU victory over ULL will put FAU in the 8th slot, and though tied, effectively a game ahead of ULL due to the tiebreaker, and a half a game ahead of ASU.

If we win our remaining four, even if both NO & ULL win tomorrow, we will finish ahead of one or the other.  Assuming all three of us win tomorrow, even if ASU would then sweep ULAR, the various scenarios of the ULL & NO series would result in one of the following (FAU must finish ahead of 2 of the other 3 as ULAR is already eliminated:

NO wins 3
NO 15-15 - in tournament
FAU 13-16 - in tournament
ASU 13-17
ULL 11-18

NO wins 2
NO 14-16 - in tournament
FAU 13-16 - in tournament
ASU 13-17
ULL 12-17

NO wins 1
FAU 13-16 - in tournament (FAU finishes 7th)
ULL 13-16 - in tournament (FAU wins tiebreaker, but ULL still makes tournament as 8th seed)
NO 13-17
ASU 13-17 (NO wins tiebreaker, not that it would matter)

NO gets Swept
ULL 14-15 - in tournament
FAU 13-16 - in tournament
ASU 13-17
NO 12-18

Latest info Courtesy of Nick Mirkovich, Faithful FAU Baseball SID!

If FAU Wins Three vs FIU:

Would finish at 13-16, and make the Tournament.

If FAU Wins Two:

Would need some help.

ULM would have the same record as FAU, but ULM wins tiebreaker.

If FAU Wins One:

Very complicated, but we would need ALOT of help:

ASU lose at least 2 to ULAR
NO sweep of ULL
Troy sweep of USA

Bottom Line:

WIN out.

Re: SBC TOURNAMENT STATE OF THE UNION: Hanging by a thread...

Latest analysis indicates that FAU can not clinch a tournament spot with a win tonight…it will go down to the wire and be decided tommorow…but the Owls can clinch a spot if they win both remaning games…if they lose one, here is the deal:

TWO of the following must happen:

* 1 ASU loss at ULAR

* USA drops each of its last two games with Troy

* Either ULL or NO win both of the remaining two games in their series

Re: SBC TOURNAMENT STATE OF THE UNION: Hanging by a thread...

Updated for today's action:

The scenario is like this:

If FAU wins today, they are on to the SBC tournament…

If we lose, then we need BOTH of these to happen:

ASU to lose to UALR
UNO to lose to ULL

Re: SBC TOURNAMENT STATE OF THE UNION: Hanging by a thread...

ASU lost to UALR.

UNO is a rain delay.

But there are more showers in the area.

The three way tie breaker is against the division winner if the game does not get finished, and that would not favor FAU.

Re: SBC TOURNAMENT STATE OF THE UNION: Hanging by a thread...

ULL 9-0 over UNO in bottom of the third inning…….

Only need 5 to make the game official.

Although they will probably want to finish it given the implications for UNO.
