Winning Streak At Six Games; Owls Over Bethune 5-4
Hatcher's team-leading eighth homerun of the season tied the game at four in the eighth and Jeremy Griffiths pushed in the go-ahead run with a sac fly in the ninth. Three straight K’s by sophomore closer Glen Troyanowski sealed the win for Florida Atlantic (23-16). The Owls have won six straight.
Bethune-Cookman (21-20) - on track to win the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for the ninth time in 10 years - scored three runs in the third, two on Emmanuel Castro's two-out double. Castro finished the day 2-for-3 with a homerun and three RBI.
With BCU leading 3-0 in the fourth, Block doubled and Sean Bukovich added an RBI-single to pull the Owls back to within a run, 3-2.
Castro led off the Wildcats' sixth with a solo homer off the scoreboard in left field. It was the first batter faced by Hugh Adams - one of eight pitchers used by FAU head coach John McCormack Tuesday. Adams would need 31 pitches to work into the seventh before striking out Castro and giving-way to Nick Melendres.
Melendres got Adams out of the seventh unarmed and after Block singled to begin the eighth Hatcher drove a 1-1 pitch from Concepcion Guzman (0-2) over the wall in left-centerfield. Hatcher's two-run shot evened up the game at four apiece.
Without the services of injured closer Justin Dahl, BCU stuck with Concepcion in the ninth. A leadoff walk was issued to Troy Bubley and a wild pitch moved him into scoring position. After Mike Albalaejo's bunt sacrifice attempt resulted in a hit and pushed Bubley to third, Griffiths ' go-ahead sac-fly scored Bubley, braking the tie 5-4.
