Despite former Florida State quarterback Deandre Francois grabbing most of the headlines, the Owls coaching staff continues to work to find its quarterback of the future. With the spring evaluation period over and summer camp season now in full swing, the quarterback board is becoming clearer.
Below is the latest on where things stand with a number of 2020 quarterback targets after talking with multiple sources close to the situation.
Michael Pratt – The local Boca Raton quarterback continues to be a priority for FAU as his stock continues to grow. Pratt was nothing but impressive this winter playing for the South Florida Express which happens to be one of the nation’s top 7-on-7 teams. Pratt holds over 15 offers and while he has not announced any leaders, the Owls appear to be a major contender to land his services as he will take his second unofficial visit to FAU this week after taking an official to Toledo this past weekend.
Anthony Romphf – FAU offensive coordinator/quarterback coach Charlie Weis Jr. has made a few trips up north in the past year and has made a big push to get involved with the highly rated quarterback out of Michigan. Romphf (pictured above) claims multiple offers including ones from both Michigan and Oregon according to his social media accounts. The three-star recruit has already taken two unofficial visits and will be back in town on Thursday for the Adidas 3 Stripe Camp. Romphf recently told Bobby Deren of 247 Sports that he "wants to get his commitment out of the way and focus on his season.’’
Katravis Marsh – The three-star recruit, who transferred from Hialeah American to national powerhouse Miami Central, has exploded onto the scene this offseason after strong performances on both the camp and 7-on-7 circuit. He has picked up offers from Tennessee, Utah, USF and FAU last month. That list will likely grow as college coaches from around the country recruit Central.
Dehron King – The local Deerfield Beach quarterback is currently committed to C-USA foe Southern Miss, but that hasn’t stopped FAU from pursuing the three-star prospect as Weis recently went to see King at his spring jamboree last month. King will likely put up huge numbers this season as he plays with one of the most talented wide receiver corps in the country.
Tate Rhodemaker – The South Georgia gunslinger has everything you look for in a future quarterback. He’s not only the son of a high school head coach, but also a kid with a 6-4, 190-pound frame, and 4.67 speed. Both he and his father spent three days in Boca Raton for FAU’s spring game. Appalachian State, USF, and Colorado State have also offered.
Look for the Owls to lock up a commitment before the early signing period, which begins December 18th, 2019.
