I get Tennessee, I think their future is bright, but Kentucky? You're really just playing second fiddle to the basketball team and having to get beaten up by SEC teams every week.  Ouch!

Quotable: "I'm probably going to end up visiting Tennessee and Kentucky after this game is over. I told FAU about that. I told them I'm going to keep my options open. They really have no choice but to respect it." – Causey on his current situation.

You know, I don't like that comment either.  However, I don't know what prompted that remark.  He could have been answering a two part  question:

"Are you planning on visiting any other schools and, if so, what do you think FAU would do about it?"

I would never imply that someone would slant the news, (red font) but what response makes the best story?

I will take a humble hard-working recruit over an arrogant highly-ranked (by third-party "services") selfish recruit every day of the week.  Recruits have the right to change their mind and say what they want.  There are plenty who do it with respect and humility. Those are the ones I hate to see get away.  The other ones, not so much.

I have to disagree, its nice to have the humble guy but in the end talent wins.

I agree.  I am just saying you can be talented and still be humble (ie. Alfred Morris).  Every talented recruit is not arrogant.  Confidence is a trait I look for.  Arrogance is a character flaw IMO.  Confidence and arrogance are different.

The me, me, me guys put themselves above the school.  I don't think that is a trait we are looking for right now.  There are plenty of great football players out there.

Jordan Scarlett could have said: Thank you for the scholarship offer, but I have decided that Miami is a better fit for me.  That's mature and being humble.  Instead he said: If I go to FAU, I will have to carry the team on my back, and I need to protect my body for the NFL.  That is a character flaw (for me).

Some will say that is unrealistic and what do you expect from 18 year olds.  I expect more.

I helped raise 2 boys (now men) who are 25 & 27.  I have been through the 18 year old years…and I like to think they would have some respect because I taught them to have some.

It's just not about football talent, these kids will take that character flaw out into the community when they are representing my alma mater.

Example:  I get to meet many current players, recruits, and their families all the time.  99.8% of them are very respectful whether they are a starter, a back up, or a recruit.

The last big recruiting trip to our store for the fab15, they were all very respectful, except one.  He thought he was the man.  I give students 10% discounts and I also give potential students who are visiting and deciding about FAU the same discount.  That's non-athletes, and athletes. If I treat every equal there are no issues.

I announced that was the discount and why. I didn't have to give any discount. This one recruit was demanding even more. I politely said I have to treat everyone the same.  When he stated: I am a commitment, and if I don't get a better discount, I may just commit somewhere else…I just bit my lip and said that if I do that it will be an NCAA violation.  He then just shut up.

That doesn't mean this kid and others won't turn out to be great adults…I just think if you have a choice of others without that character flaw, you cut your losses (ie. Duron Carter) and go for talented players with high character.
