Its ok.

I really like their site. They make the Schnellenberger Show, IMO they were the best site for recruiting (in the end), they are at every practice (even Ted's not at every practice… no offense to Ted of course) and as such have tons of videos of practice, etc. It's a lot of work and I'm sure they deserve to be paid for it.

The only thing they don't have is this messageboard - mostly because the people here don't seem to want to go over there either because of habit or loyalty (which is fine). This site is like the neighborhood bar that everyone's gone to for a million years.

I've said before that I wish the two sites could collaborate but I've spoken to both groups and it just isn't going to happen… at least not in the near future. So for the time being they'll serve separate but equal purposes.

I can't think of one website I've ever paid to view content.  Too many other sources for info out there.

Re: Competitor Goes Paysite

They do have really good content over there IMO, and they make a good point that every other respectable team has a pay-site that their fans are willing to go to.  UCF goes to Rivals, some others go to Scout, or an independent site.  It is cheaper than both of those options (which suck anyways), and they do have some exclusive content like the Howard Schnellenberger show, lots of interviews and videos…and it is run by Marcus Nelson who we all know is a credible FAU reporter.

OK so if people won't pay for that site would you all pay ($5/month) for a site that was a combination of the dedicated reporting and exclusive content of Owl Access, the color commentary and quality reporting of Ted, and the high quality message boards of the Owls Nest?  And if not, when are we going to start taking FAU football as seriously as fans for other teams?

I love that HS is our coach and what hes done for the program, however…..

Ive tried listening to botht he HS show on Owlacces and the Radio show on espn760. I just CANT get thru them. Something about his voice just leads me to tune out. Probably sacrilege I know but Ill take all the 1-2 minute blurbs that coach can throw out and love it. Anything over 5 minutes and I loose interest.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

Good comments…

Regarding this site and references/comments above:

We do articles when we can…but we are alumns with full time jobs, and not journalism majors…

We do this as a means to give back to the Univeristy and University Community at large…

im only hearing reference to the discussion forum regarding this site…

it takes alot of time to produce pieces given work schedules, etc…so as members, is that something you value, or should we just concentrate on developing the forum?

Appreciate any member feedback provided, so please fire away!

I wasn't trying to denigrate the work over here at all.  The articles here are good, but as you say they are not written by journalism majors.  They also don't cost any money.  There is of course a trade-off there, a trade-off that frankly the Owls Nest is winning.

Personally, I have the message board over here as a bookmark, not the home page so I don't read an article at the Owls Nest unless I see it through the message board.  The Owls Nest has the FAU message board market cornered, and I appreciate how much time and effort you guys put into it, but if the FAU fanbase ever wants dedicated (at every practice) reporting where their job is literally to cover FAU all the time, it will have to pay for it.  Right now, from the poll, nobody is willing to pay for it and I can't tell if thats a function of being 0-4 or just a general attitude towards FAU athletics.

Re: Competitor Goes Paysite

it's got nothing to do with our team's current success for me, I just think information should be free. This isn't communist Russia!!!

There isn't anything worth knowing that won't be on the internet soon enough. Say OwlAccess has an interview with a player, and they leak some info that "we" shouldn't know, you don't think that's gonna end up on here? There are a handful of contributors on this forum that I'd venture to guess have much better inside scoop than the guys that are "selling" the reports they do.

It's a free country, and if people are willing to pay, and want to, then more power to them, they're the same people that pay for porn on the internet too.  :D

Appreciate the feedback…didn't take it that way at all…love honesty and open dialouge..and never personalize comments, etc…it's the only way to understand folks!

We have been meeting lately to determine/evalaute demand for the sub categories of total offering at present…this is a question that we wanted to get some feedback on :)

Re: Competitor Goes Paysite

Haha, I think the argument that information should be free is an argument FOR communist Russia, not against it  ;D.  Reporting costs money, so how can we expect good reporting without paying for it? (If you think Owl Access will sit by idly while we post their exclusive articles  or information derived from them then you have another thing coming)

Ted Hutton is supported by people that buy the Sun-Sentinel and the advertisers that want to connect with those readers.  What happens when the readers, and hence advertisers continue to dry up and they can't afford to pay Ted Hutton to cover a marginal team whose fans want everything for free?

Are we supposed to rely on free rumors and "inside" information for our FAU news or are we willing to support the organizations that diligently report on them.  Personally I think the best part of our message board is that it is not filled with rumor mills and "inside" information the way UCF and many other boards are….and that is because we are spoiled to have great independent reporting for free.

I agree. We are spoiled and what we are getting is well worth the price  ;D. In all seriousness, we are fortunate to have an outlet for information and opinions in which we get a variety of valuable perspectives and insights about the program that we all care a great deal about.

GO OWLS!!!
