FAU no longer pursuing QB Tyler Ferguson

Owls tell JUCO quarterback he's "out"

It appears Florida Atlantic’s courting of quarterback Tyler Ferguson is over.

The JUCO signal caller out of the College of Sequoias no longer has an offer on the table from the Owls.

“FAU apparently took another QB and just ditched me. I’m pretty burnt over that cause I was seriously considering FAU,” Ferguson said Thursday afternoon.

Earlier in the week East Mississippi Community College quarterback Jaquez Johnson committed to FAU after taking an official visit to campus, and the verbal pledge apparently has left Ferguson on the outside looking in.

“Coach called me and said they got a commitment from a Mississippi JUCO (Johnson) and that I’m out,” he said.

The move is a surprising one to anyone familiar with the situation, as Ferguson is a talented prospect. The quarterback visited FAU two weeks ago and was set to check out Penn State and Houston before making a decision.

However that won’t be the case, as the Owls are no longer in the picture.

“They told me I would be able to look at Houston and Penn State. I just got played, that’s what it comes down to,” he said.

Penn State flew out to California this past week to visit with the quarterback, but no offer was ever extended. Ferguson will now head to Happy Valley this weekend, before visiting Houston later in December.

The number of quarterbacks FAU will take this recruiting cycle is unknown, but it appears that the coaching staff thinks it’s an area of need and will most likely sign more than one.

So from the looks of it, they are trying to go with one JUCO and one freshman, since they pulled this guys offer but are still looking to add more.

Yes that is what I think. I however feel that Ferguson is a better prospect than Johnson. (That is just my opinion.)

When he was on his visit, someone told me that he didn't want to go out and party or anything like that.

The difference is Johnson was willing to commit but Ferguson was not.  He was not "played", if he was willing to commit he would have been an Owl, Johnson beat him to it.

I love how he thinks he should have been able to go out and continue to visit other schools and we were soupposed to just keep the offer open until he decided, that's not how it works kid.

GO OWLS!

I understand what your saying, but Johnson told me he plans on taking other visits. If the coaching staff told Ferguson he could take other visits, and then they did this, he would have a point.

Exactly, and they better hope Johnson doesn't bail…….

If someone is committed, they don't keep taking visits.

I'm totally trying this with my wife.

"I'm committed, but need to go on a few more visits"  ;)

We should go after a Freshman QB, but this guy seemed like he fit in really well, what is going on over there.

Ferguson learned some thing today. In life , you don't always have the power. An offer was made, he balked, and missed the boat. In business, you have to have in your mind , before a meeting, what you are willing to accept and what you are not. You also must know the person making the offer has done the same thing. This is a swing and a miss. Mostly on his part.

I agree. I think as a player he fit the system.
