Let me know when it's top 1…….

We are up against stiff competition:

South Carolina
Pittsburgh
Kansas State
Minnesota

But it is nice to see interest from suposedly highly talented prospects :)

We got Xavier Stinson over Pitt.

The only one that really stands out there (for me) is USC.

Wischnefski acually decomitted a verbal from North Carolina and signed with FAU. We got a very good O-lineman.

True…

He has offers from two more schools:

Connecticut
Vandy

Here are the casualties:

"FAU is waiting on some last-minute news on a few recruits, but is expecting all but two signees to report next month.

Randy Richards, a offensive lineman from Royal Palm Beach High School, will not qualify academically and will sit out this season out.

Also Chase Bowers, a 6-foot-6, 265-pound OT-DE from Panama City-Mosley High School, is expected to enroll in prep school
."

I'd rather have a commitment in December that sticks than a commitment now that will be out in the open for all the bigger fish above us to snoop around on and steal away.  You all know that if we are interested in a guy with no stars he becomes a 2 or 3 star, then UCF goes hmm lets go get him and we are SOL.  Keep them close to the vest HS.

Alot of the big programs just get guys to keep them away from other teams, whether they need them or not.  Case in point that running back from Northeast High School that went to UF and just sat there.  I forget his name but we were hoping he would come transfer to FAU but he transfered out to Kansas or K State I think.

Howard doesn't publish the verbal commitments for a reason. If you noticed in the past, come signing day, it looks like FAU only has a few verbals. Then 20+ show up and sign up. Howard doesn't want the names out there for all to see.

The NorthEast RB was Bo Williams who wanted to transfer to UCF but we were full at RB.

Both HS and O'Leary can not annouce any commitments until they sign in Feb.  It is not that he does not want to announce it, it can't, FAU is not as covered at Rivals or Scout as other schools so the recruit has no one other then newspaper to announce decsion to .

The reason FAU has a ton of commitments at very end, is recruits hold out for their "dream" school and they find out it is not going to happen and FAU still has opening. It happened last year with YourHighness. Being in FL gives FAU, UCF, USF FIU an advantage bc most recruits really want to play for local school and the recruits are just better in FL so the "leftovers" are better then most stars out of state.

This I do not believe. Times are changing. That may have been the situation for SOME, but not all, in the past. Obviously every year is getting better. Any university can only sign up to 25 recruits. These offers go out long before signing day and the staff knows to some degree of confidence who is going to sign.  Otherwise you make 30 offers hoping for 25 and all 30 show up. What do you do then? Point is, Howard knows who is going to sign before LOI signing day. If you look any program, they only make 25 offers a year. You can't wait for recruits to make up their mind on the last day.

Hey there, I know I'm in enemy territory, but I just wanted to see what you guys up north were up to.

Anyway, just FYI a university CAN sign more than 25 players in one class. This is possible if recruits are kicked off the team for rules violations or ineligibility or if they transfer. The real number that teams have to pay attention to is the 85 scholarship maximum.

Re: Football: Recruiting 2009

Below is a copy of the RR rating system that Rivals uses to rate prospects.

Rivals.com has assembled the top team of recruiting analysts in the nation with both national and regional experts based all throughout the country. With those strengths, players at a number of different positions will be ranked once a month from June until February. The rankings are compiled after countless hours of film evaluation, personal observations and input from professional, college and high school coaches.
In the finished product, players are ranked a number of different ways but the most important ways are numerically by position, qualitatively by stars and a new ranking system that grades players on the expected impact they will make in college. Players are ranked numerically on a national level at their positions. The numerical ranking at each position varies depending on the depth of the talent at the position. Players are also ranked on their quality with a star ranking. A five-star prospect is considered to be one of the nation's top 25-30 players, four star is a top 250-300 or so player, three-stars is a top 750 level player, two stars means the player is a mid-major prospect and one star means the player is not ranked.

The ranking system ranks prospects on a numerical scale from 6.1-4.9.

5 stars
• 6.1 Franchise Player; considered one of the elite prospects in the country, generally among the nation's top 25 players overall; deemed to have excellent pro potential; high-major prospect
4 stars
• 6.0-5.8 All-American Candidate; high-major prospect; considered one of the nation's top 300 prospects; deemed to have pro potential and ability to make an impact on college team
3 stars
• 5.7-5.5 All-Region Selection; considered among the region's top prospects and among the top 750 or so prospects in the country; high-to-mid-major prospect; deemed to have pro potential and ability to make an impact on college team
2 stars
• 5.4-5.0 Division I prospect; considered a mid-major prospect; deemed to have limited pro potential but definite Division I prospect; may be more of a role player
2 stars
• 4.9 Sleeper; no Rivals.com expert knew much, if anything, about this player; a prospect that only a college coach really knew about

Re: Football: Recruiting 2009

Around this time of year I wish there was something I could pay for to see who we are recruiting and have verbals from, a real secret underground thing.

It sucks when you look up Sun Belt recruiting and FAU never has anyone.  Maybe that even affects recruiting too, I dunno.
