You guys always hate on the websites when they don't rank us well or predict against us.
I remember when we had a bottom 5 class under Howard the last three years and it was "stars don't matter''
''Howard knows more than those reporters'' ''Diamonds in the rough'' well then Howard went 10-26 those last three years ,so the website proved its worth.Posted On: Jan 14th 2016, 8:41 AM #353723
Howard never had high ranked classes. Mostly because he never released many details about recruiting. Different style of recruiting. Different times.
Some like to brag about recruiting rankings.
And some of us like to brag about almost winning a National Championship in year 3 and winning Bowl games in 2007 & 2008.
I don't know much about college football recruiting, but trust me on this one–Howard Schnellenberger did just fine as a college football coach.

No, He had bad classes because well he recruited poor players his last three years thus his record.
My point as is websites do a better Job of ranking than most of your guys give them credit for.

The reason for that is stars are based on the amount of interest a recruit is getting. A two star that is getting interest from non-D-1 schools jumps to three stars when a dozen or so D-1 schools show interest. So when UF shows interest or offers , the star ratings usually rise. Listen, in defense of Howard, he was in the middle of a juggling act. Trying to coach a team and work on getting the stadium built as well as who knows what else. I'm willing to give him a pass on his recruiting. Yes , it set us behind. But look what we have now.Posted On: Jan 14th 2016, 5:48 PM #353728
For sure Howard was at a HUGE disadvantage of not having a local stadium (the long practice of promising one soon did'nt help!).
I appreciate all he has and still does for FAU but now we must raise or sights and recruit better than 10 years ago. And I beleive we MUST recruit broader as S. FL has become a second home to MANY other schools in regards recruiting. Like UM, we don't have an edge in that way anymore. That is where 4-6 JUCOS a year can patch holes and add quality and depth sooner than recruiting 25 freshman.
I am also worried that our current promising of the indoor facility/student center could also come back to bite us big if we don't move on it soon. Almost a year and a half now….

Stars Do MatterPosted On: Jan 14th 2016, 3:51 PM #353727
…to fans.
The star system is a marketing ploy to get fans to discuss recruiting when there is nothing else going on. It's actually brilliant all the while being absolutely random and absurd. Heck, the system has shown over and over, it doesn't have to have any accuracy.
It's similar to betting lines on games in Vegas. It has nothing to do with predicting the outcome of games and more to do with getting fans engaged and making a fortune off of those fans who have the need to believe they are experts.
It's genius.

Take that BACK! You are going to get some people's heads to explode. They can't accept blasphemy in discussing stars.
