Homestead LB Rashad Smith Commits to FAU Football

Some sites have Rashad as a Safety and not a LB. Rivals just posted LB commit Graham has flipped to Tulane. Atlantic HS Ferguson is a better LB that is getting limited attention. Maybe there are reasons I don't know. I've seen them both. I would rather have Ferguson. Much better in coverage. As well as the ability to knock someones head off. We need to keep a steady flow of LB's coming in. We got very thin there over the past couple of years.

Rashad Smith flipped to Syracuse. This was expected.

I gotta ask why so many "bigger' Power 5 programs ((Ill.(Big10) Syracuse(ACC)) are going after 2* recruits. Sad for them if that is the best they can do at this point. Look at UM last year flipping 2* King from us. They NEED TO BE competing for higher * recruits if they are gonna win miuch at their level.

I wish those 2* recruits would just realize they are at the BOTTOM of their recruiting class and buried on the depth chart from day one. Be a leader at FAU or a reserve squad player at a power5, no brainer to me, but what do I know?

I agree that it's strange to see this happen; I remember Florida offering 2 star kids who of course took it and I wondered what the plan was there, if that kid was rough with tremendous upside.

At the same time, kids shouldn't come here and assume they're automatically going to stand out even as a 3 star. To be fair, we have 2 and 3 star recruits who aren't getting much playing time for us either.

Case in point: you didn't hear Rodrick Archer's name much last season. Maybe he'll be incredible the next three years but he wasn't big man on campus from the start. He'll have to earn it.

And this is good because if the star system has some merit - and most would agree that it does - we'd be pretty bad if the "bottom of the recruiting class" is a "leader for FAU."

That said I think these kids at least initially want to brag about who they signed with, so they'll ride the pine for two years on an SEC team for instance until they get sick of not actually playing and then fall back to their level where they're needed.

All true Doc, sad to see them waste a year or two of eligibilty though plus have to sit out a year unless they drop down to FCS. Which is really why so many top FCS programs are so good. They live off the downward transfers.

Let's all hope our Coaches know talent and can COACH UP talant and this class can be as good as last years even without as much visibility.
