How Kiffin's Departure Will Affect FAU Football's Class of 2020

Coaching changes are never easy on a recruiting class with commits being unsure of what the future of a program might look like.

These decisions become particularly harder with the early signing period starting on December 18th.

In 2018 around 65 percent of all FBS signees signed their National Letter of Intent in December's early period and this number is expected to grow during 2019.

This obviously could leave the emerging new FAU staff a limited field of potential recruits for February's National Signing Day.

The Owls currently have ten verbal commits, and eight are expected to sign for the early signing period, which would be the largest number the program has taken since the early period began in 2017.

While no commits have publicly decommitted, some commits have anonymously told FAUOwlsnest they are unsure of their status moving forward and want to see who eventually takes the reigns in Boca Raton.

Other commits said they are locked into FAU all the way.

"Yeah I am staying regardless, just going to have to keep the culture,'' one verbal commit said when asked if he was sticking with his original decision.

What remains of FAU coaching staff will have to do a lot of catching up, as they were limited this week in being able to get on the road due to championship game prep.

Owls' staff will likely have to host a possible 20-30 officials visitors this upcoming weekend which will be comprised of both current commits and players who they are trying to sway their way.

Romello Dotson and Jaden Hadan are just two of some of the big uncommitted names who will be on campus next weekend.

The NCAA limits recruits to one official visit per school, but a player can take a second official if there is a new head coach hired.

This will allow the possibility of some visiting players this weekend to return in January for an official if they do not sign a National Letter of Intent during the early period.

Stay tuned for further updates as things play out in both hiring and the ongoing ebb and flow of prospects' decision making process.
