JUCO Recruiting

I don't know whether recruiting from Juco FB programs is a good idea in general. But two sites regarding Juco FB make interesting reading. They are the sites of the National Junior College Athletic Association (based in Colorado Springs, Colo.) and the California Community College Athletic Association (based in Sacramento). With the limited recruiting budget of FAU, it would be tough to see any of these players because FB-playing community colleges are pretty far away. Further, these sites do not mention grades and test scores, of course. But there is interesting reading as one drills down into the sites.

Some of the stats look pretty good: Here are a couple of recent players of the week:

Re: JUCO Recruiting

Great idea for us at the present time, and fully expect the new coaching staff to tap that channel right out the gate for a few spots!

Re: JUCO Recruiting

Name me one major program who  today does not utilize the JUCO rote big time to improve themselves NOW.

WE HAVE TO apapt and change or die, oops I forgot, we have already died!

Can't wait for next year guys, we have to join the 21st century or we have 5K in the seats next year and lose lots of money.

+1

There is no way the new staff will not at least look at JUCO players. It is a completely mystery to me why the current staff was so stuck in their archaic ways that made no sense to present day college football.

Re: JUCO Recruiting

I would say most major programs do not recruit JUCO players.

Look at the Michigans, Texas's, Oklahomas, etc…I dont think they will sign a single JUCO player this year.

Re: JUCO Recruiting

Just to clarify…I am not saying we dont need to recruit them.  However, MOST major programs do not.

That being said, I am not sure we need to.  If Stephen Curtis develops the way I think he will this team will be just fine next year.

Re: JUCO Recruiting

We needed to last year with our entire offensive line graduating and having only Freshmen in there to replace em.

WR and O Line are the two areas where it makes sense for us in this debate. We had a crop of WRs disappear in the last few years, guys that should've been JR and SR now were booted, or left or something.

most of those big time programs are so deep with talent they don't have to resort to that and also as Grayowl pointed out, there aren't too many juco college programs around here to stay connected with.

Re: JUCO Recruiting

Not saying they all do but if you check the top 50 or even 100 JUCO recruits lists, it is DOMINATED by Big6 AQ programs by no less than 95%!

More physically developed playes, who have played competitively at a higher level than HS seniors and have proven they can pass college level courses. Which also helps the programs score rankings in regards to graduating players and not, as they will be doing now, banning a Conference champion or even a No. 1 ranked team from post season bowl or tournament participation - OUCH!

And of course, we could have brought in four or five O lineman last year with say 20 starts each as opposed to going with an undersized and totally inexperienced O line. I thought - as did many (even the pro prognosticators) that the years experience would do them a world of good,. I guess not with this level of Coaching.

Come on 2012!

Exactly - FAU Is not 'big time' football, at least not yet. So by all means how do you not look at JUCO players that can be much more talented than the 'diamond in the rough' recruits we constantly get? Makes no sense not to look at JUCO players. But I guess it's like how are staff stubbornly continues to run a 'pro style offense' when we don't even have a D1 product on the field (but I won't digress lol)
