It's not always the distance of the punt, it depends where you are on the field.  I watched every game last year and outside of a few mistakes he a solid punter.

Agree…he did have some nice pin-backs last season…

We have a solid punter in Keegan Petersen but we could use a strong kicker.

38 yards per punt average is solid?  He ranked 89th in FBS http://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2008&rpt=IA_playerpunt&site=org.  And the average doesnt even get into hang time or lack thereof on most of our punts.

We can certainly upgrade this position.  With a struggling defense, a strong punter is a huge weapon.

I watched every game last year as well, and there is a big difference when you watch our punting game versus most other school's punters.  We lack hang-time and distance.  You can't argue those are not important attributes for a good punter.  Sure, Peterson may do a fine job punting from our opponent's 40-45, but when we are deep in our own territory, we need someone who can change the field position advantage.

From what I understand he will be a walk-on not a signee

FAU Sports site is listing him as the 26th signee…

Just to double check, i inquired about his status…

Officially, he was a "recruited walk-on".

Re: Kicker to sign per TBO.com

this kid is good, my dad graduated from TC and goes to some of the games……He said this kid is one of the best "raw" kickers he has seen play.

AS a side note i went to school with Xavier Beita (FSU) (same age as me) and was a few years behind Jay Feely (good family friend, and his dad was my JV coach)…….

I hope big things!

Since he signed he is a scholarship player. This makes him a "non-recruited scholarship player". It basically means he has a scholarship but it doesn't count against the limit. Its common among kickers.
