Well its hard to win games when you have below avg recruiting classes so you either have to win games with below AVG players to boost recruiting or recruit good players with a poor record. Right now we are at tipping point with the so called FAB15 if a couple more kids like causey and someone else drop it could be and a meh class.

I will say this I do think Charlie has some guys up his sleeve that we could possible flip.
This time of year the big schools might have 40 kids who think they are committed and as the big schools lad the 4* and 5* guys some kids are left out in the cold.

I completely agree, and it's kind of a catch-22. But looking at the games that we lost, two were by one point, and two were by three points. We should have won those, even with our below-average roster. I think if we win those, we keep our recruits because we'd be promising a nine or ten win season and playing for a conference championship, not a six or seven win season with a possible bowl invite.

And you're right, if we lose another one or two recruits, we go from best class ever to just another mediocre class, and hoping to get six wins next year.

I am not sure I get it…why do you think the incoming freshman class has anything to do with the number of wins next year?

MAYBE 3-4 of the freshman will see limited playing time with 1-2 starting in a position of need.

This is the thing that kills me about recruiting and fans, this isn't the NFL where you sign free agents and immediately get better.  You recruit a class where 80% of the kids wont reach potential or have a big impact until at LEAST thier 2nd full season.

The seniors and juniors next year that will make up the majority of the playing time, are from HS and Carl Pelini's recruiting classes.

Did you not watch last year?
We had 7 freshman make a major impact last year if not more and that was the 94th rated class.
If this class is as good as they say they are they should be able to be out many of the guys on the roster.
Also look at the positions leading this class. DB'S and Lb's who make up 9 of the 23 right now.
Next year we need safety's bad we are losing two starters and the LB core is awful coming back we NEED! these kids to play.
If they can not start over the kids on the roster now at those positions be concerned.
Jones would have most likely played in Parms position that's why he is a huge loss.

Look some of these kids think they are the next big star and can be drafted but when they get to college they find out their at least a dozen players say fighting for the same position but that could be at schools like bama but hey what do I know. He may just to play for national titles and get a college degree.

Jones can easily play at IU or Cal he is good.

I agree that a couple of the commits, including Jones and Causey, probably would start right away. Lets be real , our defense is WEAK and we need help. Losing a couple of our highly recruited kids is huge. I do hope that there are a few poor kids that have committed to larger schools that fall in our laps.

I didn't say Jones couldn't start right away but I am saying some of these kids think like that.

If these kids go online and see themselves rated 2-3 stars, their chances at an NFL career are very low and they need to be thinking about Plan B… actually using that college degree you got with football.

If they know what they want to do, they need to find out the best program for that within their offers. FAU isn't academically known for a lot of things and worse we don't seem to have a strong alumni network that will hire you just because you were an Owl.

So I never blame a kid for switching to a Duke or Cal or even one of the so-called public Ivies. Being three mjnutes from the beach for 5 years is nice; being employed for the next 25+ is better. Applicants with a college degree are a dime a dozen these days.

And freshmen in general need to hear this too. They need to know from the minute they step on campus that they're building a CV.

And we, as alumni, need to take care of our own.

They do and they should every kid that come to any school should want to start from day one.

List of CUSA All Conference Players 1st and 2nd team….most are seniors, nearly all are at least juniors.  Very few are sophomores, not a SINGLE one is a freshman.  If you've watched college football your whole life, you should know any college team depending on a ton of freshman will not be succeed.

Jones definitely could start at FAU or other schools but schools like Cal or Indiana might be a little tougher but if he bucked down he could do it. But Owl2doc is right to our alumni supports for athletics is dismissal and needs to improve more to grow athletics and the university to the level we want it and to improve it.

Exactly, 7.  Like I said 2 or 3 might start, 3-4 will contribute.

I understand the kids committed right now are talented, but the reality is they are 18 years old.  They need to learn the college game and physically mature in a college program.

Unfortunately, due to poor attrition rates and a lack of depth in the secondary and linebacker corps we might see freshman play.  One of the main factors in the "star" system is how ready they are to have an impact in college immediately.  Those are high level 4 star and 5 star players.   The reason most are 2 and 3 star kids is because they will need to develop in a program.
