I'm just trying to figure out if we are going to be a pro-style offense or a spread…The hurry up part lends toward spread, but we have two highly rated pro-style QB's.
on a side note:
Never heard of a hurry up pro-style!

This doesn't make sense tons of teams use pocket QB's for the spread DT QB doesn't equal spread QB and vice versa.
Miami ran a spread last year with a PP, Cincy with both QB'S they had, and Josh Rosen at UCLA.

It actually makes plenty of sense when you consider that Miami themselves called their offense last year an "amoeba" (some pro), and UCLA is already abandoning the spread and going back to the pro to cater to their quaterback's style - go figure!

Anyway, my point was we were recruiting pro-style (not spread) quarterbacks, and now we have swung back the other way again; making it difficult to establish a true identity from a style perspective.
The vast majority of programs recruit the style of QB that fits their overall offensive style.

Yea, but duel threat doesn't automatically translate to spread or vis versa.
Also I hate the word spread because there is 100 different types of spread and "up tempo".
Its smart FAU will limit its self to recruiting one type of QB. Just take the best one and create and offensive that works for him.
If you have QB with AVG athletic ability and a avg arm but has a quick release and is extremely accurate you can make that work in some version of the spread offence.

Yea and this job is pretty much Johnson's to lose over the next 3 seasons with Driskell being the clear cut back up for the next two. Wouldn't surprise me if Parr and Frank transfered out too. It's a shame Parr couldn't take advantage of his opportunities this past season.

The landscape has changed in this instant gratification world and the situation all of these players are faced with is a valuable life lesson. Things don't always go as planned, sometimes someone else shows up that wants to take your job and you have to choose to man up and work harder or run away. This won't be the last time they are at this crossroads…

We were put in a tough place having to use qbs that we're so young. Parr didn't perform but I don't think that was because he's not as good as advertised, he was a redshirt freshman! In 2 years, Parr could be really good, I hope we get to find out.

+1000.
Everybody talks as if you are not ready to come in and start and excel in your first few years in college you are a bust. It's just not true.
What you really want is a stable program with a pipeline of Quarterbacks who are being coached and developed throughout thier college career. Perfect case scenario for FAU would be to always have a RS Junior or older starting for us.

You are assuming Driskell is not going to be able to compete with Johnson. I wouldn't be so sure of that.
Driskell was a bright spot for me in the wasted season of 2016. He is coming into this next fall as a RS Junior and has a ton of experience under his belt. He also showed more talent than I thought he possesed this year. He throws much better than average and can run a little. He showed poise under pressure and the game seemed to slow down a bit for him.
I think this will be a tougher battle for Johnson than most anticipate. Driskell has earned his right to compete for the starting gig and I think he will show well this spring and summer.
