This is not directed at anyone, just my:
Ever heard of Tyler Higbee?
Zero stars.
Gangbusters at WKU, one of the best (if not the best) tight ends in C-USA.
How about Tyler Horn?
Zero stars: The No-Star Recruit | The Players' Tribune
All ACC two years at Miami.
Before we write this guy off, let's give him a chance.Posted On: Jan 25th 2016, 10:40 AM #353993
I agree. Hunter Renfrow at Clemson was a walk-on that nobody had heard about. He had a solid year…
But there are hundreds, maybe thousands of recruits every year with 0 stars, and maybe one or two really develop into quality players over the course of their careers.
So far, FAU hasn't really demonstrated the ability to take low-star players and develop them into all-conference players.Posted On: Jan 25th 2016, 11:08 AM #353997
I am not sure this is correct. Rusty, Rob, Harmon, Alfred, Reaser, Jean, a few others.Posted On: Jan 25th 2016, 11:22 AM #353998
None of those players were on the roster with this current coaching staff. Also, since every recruit during that era was no stars some were bound to be good. I don't think anyone is not rooting for this kid, but I do not want to be force feed how great of a recruit this is.

The observation was
"So far, FAU hasn't really demonstrated the ability to take low-star players and develop them into all-conference players. "
and yes, FAU has. To say this coaching staff has not is really premature since they've only been there 2 years.

You are correct. Not only have they had all-conference players, we had three first-team all-CUSA this season: Trey Hendrickson, Treyvon Coley, and Dalton Schomp. I should have done better research before making that comment.
However, in light of the 12 players with all-conference honors last season, we should have been better than 3-9, and flipping an FCS commit doesn't really bode well for the future of the program.
I really hope this class surprises everybody. But it's hard to see this recruiting class matches up to the #Fab16 hype.
I'm a committed owl fan and alum, and I'll still have my season tickets, and i'll win or lose with my school. I'd rather win though..

Where's the hype? Rick posted a kid saying he committed to FAU. Should he not post it because he was less than 3 stars? The fact of the matter does it really matter whether we give this kid an offer? Every year very quietly a bunch of kids leave and transfer. Happen this year. If he gets here and he's not what the coaches thought he was, he probably will be advised that if he wants to play he probably should move to another school. It's not pretty, but that is how the sausage is made.

Stars aside, I agree that flipping FCS talent is not a huge accomplishment and like you I hope this class surprises. We all want the same thing, for sure.

I'm not saying Rick is hyping it up. I really respect Rick and the work that he does. But I do think that it does matter who we make offers to. Not only for the level of talent, but also the perception of the program. Maybe he'll turn out to be great. Maybe he'll quietly transfer. But I'd rather offer to players who are going to be great, and not transfer. So, I do think the talent level matters when we make offers…

Local kid gets to play in the Power5 ACC AND get away from home. NOT surprising how many want to get away from parental supervision OR local thuggery and get away from their local "buds".
Heck, UM has had trouble holding players at their level and that is one BIG reason THEY are dropping down to us. How many Coaches has the U had in the past 10 years? How many ACC DIVISION TITLES.
Coaches with Richt now = 4. AT THE U!!!! Answer to the second one = 0 (Zero, zip, zilch) division LET ALONE CONFERENCE TITLES.
Local kids WANT TO LEAVE HOME AND LOCAL ISSUES!
I hope I am so wrong, but IMHO our going BACK to Howards approach of trying to recruit almost entirely from S. FL. is not going to work now either. Where are our panhandle or west coast signings? And of coure we are now one of the FEW who do not recruit JUCOS.
PLEASE PROVE ME WRONG COACHES!!!!

I think that's the key right there. I mean, Bama wins championships by bolstering with JUCO players. I agree that you can't rely on the JUCO players as the primary recruiting target, but why the heck don't we get some guys for key positions that will be ready go immediately?
And for the life of me, I don't know why we don't put more of an emphasis on the southeast and New England areas, and obviously Texas. There have GOT to be some solid players in those regions that would be happy to take a chance and go to SoFla to be a part of building a program.

Are we even trying to use the "Football in Paradise" thing anymore? I suppose, but we are limiting OUR OWN recruiting possibilities IMHO.
