- A total of 11 players on the 2009 Hilltopper roster hail from the state of Florida. That includes four projected starters - QB Kawaun Jakes (St. Augustine), OL Cody Hughes (Bradenton), DL Kenny Martin (Orlando) and DB Jamal Forrest (Miami).
- The Hilltoppers will be making their first visit ever to Lockhart Stadium. WKU and FAU played for the first time in 2008 in Bowling Green.
- WKU is looking for its first victory in the state of Florida since 2004 when it closed out the regular-season with a 35-14 win at Florida International.

Re: Game Week Thread: WKU vs FAU - Nov. 28th, 4:00PM EST
They haven’t won a game in more than a year, they’ve lost more games in a row than any team in the country, their coach has been fired and their season has essentially been a nightmare.
Yet the Western Kentucky football team isn’t worried about any of that. Because, quite frankly, there’s no point.
As the Hilltoppers (0-10, 0-6 Sun Belt Conference) prepare for their last road contest of the season Saturday at Florida Atlantic (3-7, 3-3), they say they’re only interested in what’s ahead.
“If anything, I think guys have loosened up a bit and are just out here flying around and having fun,” WKU senior receiver Jake Gaebler said Tuesday. “We kind of lost sight of the fact that this is still a game and it’s supposed to be fun.
“And now we’re in a situation where we just want to have fun out here, we’re still working and we’re making progress.”

WKU football generated some buzz two weeks ago, when the school announced it would fire current head coach David Elson at the end of the season. That buzz returned Monday, when the school announced that former quarterback Willie Taggart would take over the program next season.
But through it all, the Hilltoppers (0-10, 0-6 Sun Belt Conference) have focused only on one another. Despite all the adversity, this group is arguably one of the closest-knit teams during Elson’s tenure as head coach.
“You dream of playing college football as a kid and then sometimes when you get there it feels like it’s more of a job than anything else,” WKU senior receiver Jake Gaebler said. “This year’s been full of adversity, and through all the years I’ve been playing football, this is the most adversity I’ve faced on a team.
