Game Week Thread: FAU @ South Alabama - 10/20/12 @ 3:30 PM

USMCOWL,

I downloaded an app called "College Football Scoreboard" that's awesome so I can keep up with scores while on vacation, at conference, in class, etc.

I got it for Android, not sure what you have. In any case, I highly recommend it if you can get it.

Unfortunately we had to make sacrifices, so no smart phone for our family.

unfortunately I will be missing the game this weekend. Will be on a mini vacation with the family in Orlando. Wont have a laptop with me so I only check on the game occasionally from the business center.

Enjoy!

The weather has turned up that way, so should be a very nice weekend…….

Posted this in the SBC Week Seven thread, but definitely worth mentioning herein as well…

USA kicker gets the nod as one of three POTW:

Special Teams

Michel Chapuseaux (South Alabama, Sr., K)

Chapuseaux tied a career high with three field goals, posting a season-best 11 points in the Jaguars’ game Saturday at Arkansas State. His 26-yard field goal midway through the first quarter gave USA a 10-0 lead, and he hit again from 39 yards out to draw the Jags within one point at the half. Chapuseaux tacked on a 42-yard field goal in the third quarter, and he was 2-of-2 on extra-point attempts as well.

Jaguar Notes from the USA @ ASU contest:

- Ross Metheny accounted for a USA season-best 263 yards of total offense in the program’s first-ever conference road game at Arkansas State Saturday, equaling a school game record with three touchdown passes. The junior finished 24-of-38 passing — a school game record for completions — for 241 yards, adding 22 on the ground, in leading the Jaguars to their highest scoring total since the opening week of the season.

- ILB Jake Johnson had nine total tackles, including two assists behind the line of scrimmage, and a fumble recovery, helping lead a defensive effort Saturday that limited ASU to 316 yards of total offense, 155 below the Red Wolves’ season average entering play.

- Senior Michel Chapuseaux tied a career high with three field goals, posting a season-best 11 points in the Jaguars’ game Saturday at Arkansas State.

- Junior ILB Enrique Williams led the Jags with a career-high-tying 12 total stops, the second time in three outings that he has posted a dozen tackles after first accomplishing the feat at Mississippi State on Sept. 22. It was the third occasion this season that Williams has paced the team in tackles, while he has also been credited with at least one stop for loss in four of the last five games after collecting an assist behind the line against the Red Wolves.

- The Jaguar offense recorded season highs at ASU with 373 yards of total offense — the unit ran a school game-record 88 plays and 35 minutes and 39 seconds time of possession. After entering play converting 27.8 of its third-down opportunities, USA also went 9-of-20 (45%) in those situations against the Red Wolves while also succeeding on 4-of-6 fourth-down conversions.

Owls open as 2 point dogs to the Jags…….

Can't say that is a surprise given how well USA played yesterday.

+3.5 now…….

Re: Game Week Thread: FAU @ South Alabama - 10/20/12 @ 3:30 PM

Excerpts from USA Coach Joey Jones' presser today…

Coach Jones:

"FAU is a very physical football team, I’ve watched them on film where they have faced Alabama and Georgia and they banged with those teams.  Defensively, their front seven are very physical guys.  They have great athletes and a fifth-year senior quarterback, we understand going into this game that this is another good football team we are facing."

"Both of our records are alike, but they have been fighting against some very tough teams as well.  They are used to winning too, they won the Sun Belt a few years back, and so they understand how to do it."

QB Ross Metheny:

"They (FAU) like to play a lot of man coverage; that’s just their identity. They’re real solid on all three phases of the defense. They have some really good athletes in the secondary, their linebackers run well and their defensive ends are explosive off the edge in the pass rush. We’ll game plan and will be ready. Our guys are excited for the challenge and looking forward to it."

DL Randon Carnathan:

"Defensively, we just have to keep playing hard. We have to stop shooting ourselves in the foot. We play hard; there’s no quit on either side of the ball. We just have to put it all together and get a ‘W’. It’s as simple as that."
