Game Week Thread: Wagner @ FAU - 08/31/12 @ 8:00 PM

I don't know about you all, but I am fired up for tomorrow night.  After the event at "Our Place" and seeing the actual 2 deep on both sides of the ball - I'm ready for some football.
FAU 24 - Wagner 9 (missed extra point)

Offensive Two Deep per FAU:

A couple thoughts:

  1. Curtis over Wilbert: I approve. Pelini said something about the starter is the starter, the QB can't be looking over his shoulder all the time to see when he's being pulled… so hope Curtis delivers (and really airs it out)
  2. I thought Jordan Sessa was going to be our starting Center. Mustafa must be good.
  3. I was really excited about Chris Chappell when we recruited him and here he is, R-Jr, still not starting. A little disappointed but hey, size is great but talent wins out.
  4. We have a lot of good guys at RB. Happy about that. We are going to run the ball a lot.
  5. Hankerson, huh? Next year we should have the Indiana transfer McCants and Duron Carter… we should be explosive at WR.

Defensive Two Deep Per FAU:

  1. Excited to see what McKnight and Glanton can do.
  2. Right CB is young…
  3. Kayvon Sherill Jr? D'Joun Smith? Couple unknown names here in the two deep.
  4. I'm a Cory Henry fan. Always have been.

DJ Frye-Smith played last year, maybe as a punt returner and I think as our nickel back. As for Sherill…no clue on that one

I know earlier in the week, one of the press outlets mentioned Mustafa has also taken on a big leadership role, and he must be good!

Would say that he isn't going to be throwing much…in fact you are likely now looking at 65 - 35 run split…he can run the ball, and that is the main thing when going with him over Wilbert.

If German is still around, the two WR you mentioned, the two young DB's we got this year, very good TE and an up and coming O line, next year does look bright. The talent level is rising. And , the coaching staff is better.  These guys are better teachers. The results will show soon , but maybe not right away.

Anyone want to take a guess what our first play from scrimmage will be?
I'm saying an 76 yard touchdown pass down the sideline…towards the student section.  Lambeau Leap/Howard Hop/Pelini Pounce into the student section - FAU up 7 nothin' to start the season!  :P

I think 3-4 wins this year, next year bowling. That's my prediction. I think everything, from Chun to Pelini to recruiting, is on the right track towards that. Not to mention the new dorm, the Rat's Mouth is going to grow and our basketball team could have an awesome season this year, all building school spirit and support for FAU athletics.

As an aside, Pelini mentioned that Duron Carter has been a "very good kid and we've had no problems with him" and reminded me that he'd get 3 years of eligibility left here (although he could leave early for the NFL and not give us the three). Incidentally, if Carter and McCants both redshirt this season they'd both be able to give us three years of playing time. If MG3 redshirts, that means two years of "MG3 to Duron Carter"… which could seriously lead to upsets and put us on the map.

That may be seen as an exaggeration but I don't care. I think big, the first game's tomorrow, and I'm drinking 100-proof FAU kool-aid. I'm not asking for Boise State here. I just want us to have an awesome bowl team that upsets/near-upsets major teams and I want Chun to "get our brand out there" in a super-aggressive way so everybody within 100 miles knows our logo and thinks, "Hey, they actually have a pretty good team there in Boca."
