FGCU for a record # of appa but I don't believe it had an impact in an increase in enrollement. But did it help with exposure? Absolutely.
So it will help academics eventually, but not unless it helps our football program win and gain more exposure. Then the 100k+ alumni will be proud of their alma mater and give back to the school's academic programs.

Finally, the pride in your school for the alumni (130K+ according to the video) and getting people to come back to campus and Boca and S. Florida for things like homecoming or games, or bowls games and then to donte and become and stay involved.
These are all things which actually benefit the school academically!

Exactly! When FAU moved up from Division II up to DI, applications jumped, and the same occurred when we got our stadium. Better applicants means we can continue improving research (smarter students), which increases state funding, more access to individual grants, and makes donors more inclined to be involved. Athletics are so ingrained into the college experience that unless you're an Ivy league school, you almost need a quality athletic program in order to help fund other programs at the university. In addition, football is almost always the revenue driver for the athletic program (with the exception of some of the basketball schools). A good football program benefits the university as whole.
This doesn't even get into the overall economic benefit East Boca, when there are potentially 30,000 fans eating at local restaurants and staying in local hotels.
And we're still not even down to the tertiary revenue streams associated with good programs, like apparel sales. Every day you see people in SoFla repping FSU, UF, and UM. It's because they've built great programs, recruited great players to play at those programs, and fans who don't even go to the school end up buying apparel and tickets.

There must be a reason the best colleges in the country have a full athletic dept. Regardless of how high Stanford ranks academically, they still have very successful athletic teams that can compete at the highest level.

FAU was never DII. It started D1-AA FCS then moved up to D1-A FBS.Posted On: Dec 3rd 2014, 3:55 PM #339278

This. I already have. I donate to the Political Science scholarship fund every year and if it wasn't for the football team and the direction it's heading in, I don't know if I would be donating as much as I do now. It's just a pride thing. When these young guys take the field, they represent the student body, faculty and the ALUMNI that came before them. Just like I do when I step into court. Owls are forever!FAUfasho said
I think it could have an impact in the very long run. Unfortunately or fortunately. the best way to get noticed nationally is through sports, specifially, football.
