Re: 'Belt board is having at FAU
Anyway, I'm getting pretty tired of that message board…it reminds me of anygivensaturday.com all over again. Fans of more established programs are getting jealous/nervous about FAU and resort to putting them down any chance they get. I'll still read it because I like to see what people are saying about the Owls, but posting there is pointless because you don't get discussion, all you end up with is "FAU has fans?" responses.

I have to stop posting there. Every time I refute some garbage they (mostly MTSU fans) say, they come back at me about my "community college", "sue me", etc. It's so juvenile.
exactly why i dont spend ANY time on other boards…except this one and occassionally cbssportsline.com
total WASTE of time…

Bowl committees share information on ticket sales rather frankly among one another and good numbers are very important to obtaining a second bowl game, preferrably one closer the eastern part of the conference.

Don't confuse the arrogant turds who think everyone in the league is beneath their favorite school with people like Stebo who consider FAU a good addition but would rather not see FAU representing the Belt in a bowl game until the program has reached a point where a noticeable number of fans will come to the game.
with all due respect, our program is in it's seventh season…the above (attendance reference) takes time to develop…
fact of the matter is that if we are good enough to win the Belt, then we are good enough to represent the Belt…
if "Stebo" is concerned about the well being of the Belt, then if we win, i suggest he hop the next plane to NO regardless of the fact his team wouldnt be there…….

Re: 'Belt board is having at FAU
You've got only a tiny fraction of your alumni base that was in school when FAU had or was even seriously discussing football. A student who enrolled when FAU entered I-A is a junior.
Football isn't just about the product on the field. Do I think FAU at 4-4 right now would represent the Sun Belt well against CUSA 3/4/5/6? Of course I do, anyone not a CUSA fan would say so, and right now they are so blue over the state of their league many of them would agree as well.
None of that has squat to do with the financial end of the game. Bowl committees want people in the hotels and restaurants and their interest in quality of play is limited to a passing concern over whether the game will be entertaining enough to hold a TV audience, beyond that, they want bodies.

Re: 'Belt board is having at FAU
I think FAU has a tough battle for another 15 years or so until you start getting enough 30 year old and older alums who had football as part of their collegiate experience (even if they didn't go to games). It's at that point where people start having the disposable income for season tickets and booster club donations.
That's when the REAL potential will emerge. Right now every positive accomplishment is just gravy.
I think the ideal first bowl situation for FAU would be a game like the Motor City against Ohio or New Orleans vs. UCF. Neither might draw well but it is precisely the sort of game that ESPN would love because of the storyline of two coaches who are working their career at smaller name schools. Never, ever, hurts to makes ESPN happy.

That bowl needs to do more to encourage local fans to attend.
FAU would bring a recognizable name and coach (especially), and following by two large media markets. That is something that would impress bowl officials - especially concerning TV ratings and revenue.
