"Oakland May Have Struck Gold With Joseph"

"The Oakland Raiders raised many eyebrows with their draft, but in their flurry of action they may have found their diamond in the rough in linebacker Frantz Joseph out of Florida Atlantic University. Joseph has an intriguing story, and a reputation as a hard worker that could make him the first undrafted free agent to make the 53 man roster out of training camp since Chris Carr in 2005.

Joseph traded a full ride scholarship to Boston College in to attend the much smaller Florida Atlantic University, so that he could be closer to home and help out his mother. This move, done to help lift his mother out of poverty, cost him the chance to become a coveted prospect. Instead, he had to wait through the entire draft, before he inked a deal with the Silver and Black.

This deal with the Raiders gets him no guarantees of success, only the chance to come to minicamps to prove that he deserves a chance to go to training camp. He faces long odds with the Raiders having drafted a linebacker in the fourth round, as well has having several on the roster. However, the bulk of that linebacking corps is better suited towards being special teams players, so there are gaps in their games.

Prior to the signing of Joseph, Cable said that Slade Norris would be competing for the strong side linebacker. Now, it would be safe to say that Joseph would be in the same competition. Competition for a spot on an NFL team is always a challenge. However, challenges are not new to Joseph. Joseph worked on his double major of business and management, play Division I football, and work odd jobs to support his mother.

Whilst there are no guarantees for Frantz Joseph with the Oakland Raiders, the Raiders are guaranteed that they will get a player who will work hard. It is hightly doubtful that there will be anyone at the camps who will be outworking him. He has gotten to where he is by working hard, so there is no doubt that he will let up with the goal in sight. If he makes the right impression in camps and makes the opening day roster, he will be able to take very good care of his mother."

And that would be awesome to see him on the field that opening day! I hope he does it and prove all the teams who decided to pass on drafting him very wrong.

Best of luck Frantz, hope to see you in the fall on the big stage!
