"Who let the Owls Out?" Chant

fauowl09 said

our band has laid the foundation for some really good traditions… i wish our band would play the chants more often throughout the game (and as often as UF's band) but the point is stop the freaking who let the owls out chant please

We have a band???? Seriously???? My wife asked at UF if that was the same High School Band that use to play at our Home Games…. Sadly it isn't….

I hate to offend any band people that look thru this site, but that was pretty weak in Gainsville, i would of let them at home. I think UF's band had like 300+ USF like 200+

I'm not in the band and I've never been in a band but you gotta cut them some slack. We've had a football team for 7 years Florida has been playing for probably 107 you can't compare the too. The kids in the band play their hearts out I'm sure if we could get more people in the band we'd definitely sound and look a lot better but 1 step at a time I'm sure they'll get there.

Yah dont knock the band…..in fact they do a pretty good job considering most of them dont want to be there.

AS for the fan with the who let the owls out chant…..if he is there on saturday i will throw a heavy blunt object at him in hopes to stop this horrible chant……..there is nothing worse than the original song……(thanks Baha Men), but this man is no "wierd al" who let the owls out……

Re: "Who let the Owls Out?" Chant

Like I said in another post you could here them on the TV playing the FAU fighht Song so they can't be that bad. This band is what all of three years old. They need money to grow so maybe a couple of shillings here and there would help build the Band ;)

I've said it in other topic and I'll say it again. We are young, and I've been in the band since we revamped it in 05 and we are getting better every year. Our numbers may not be growing that quickly, but we are gaining quality players, which is better than a lot of crappy players. I expect that we grow pretty drastically in the next few years. There are still people that don't even know we have a band. And thanks for all those with the kind words!

Re: "Who let the Owls Out?" Chant

I'll weigh in on this chant thing - once again. It was discussed on this board over the summer.

Although a lot of people consider the chant to be "dumb," etc. you have to remember - we are a young school.  Half or more than half of the people on this board can't sing our fight song. We have nothing else other than "let's go owls" and "defense," as far as chants (that the general population knows).

I"WHO LET THE OWLS OUT IS SOMETHING." It's something that we can look back and say "people knew it and chanted it."  EMBRACE people like the gentleman who started and keeps the chant going. We need 15,000 more of him - dedicated owls who come to every game both home and away.

Seriously….
- Y'all are talking crap about this guy,
- People (or at least a couple) have criticized the band, cheerleaders, Owsley, etc.
- Not on this board, but on the sun-sentinel blog, one blogger takes rips at the student spirit group, the prOWLers
- one or two posts talked about Clayton turning over the ball on purpose

As someone who is an avid Owl fan, I understand that some things could be different and we wish they were a little better. But EMBRACE what we have. If we keep saying negative remarks, saying outlandish comments about spirit groups, bands, cheerleaders, etc. or tell fans to SHUT UP after they are CHEERING for OUR team, WE ARE GOING TO LOSE WHAT WE HAVE.

Come on guys/girls. Let's be serious. If you are going to criticize something, let's make it positive and have an alternative plan - not just "give them something else to cheer."

Smitty you make some good points and I see what you are saying. We're not saying the guy who does the chant isn't passionate and we all know he's trying and at least he shows up to the games and he even made it to Gainesville which is great but the chant really is stupid. No one is criticizing him all we are saying is the chant is dumb and we gotta come up with something new.

As for the guy on Huttons blog bashing the prowlers that's a whole another story…

Re: "Who let the Owls Out?" Chant

I think Smitty makes some good points. We should embrace what we have.

At the risk of being critical I also have to say that the fight song is pretty lame. "Football in Paradise" as part of a fight song. Weak at best.

Anyhow, traditions will grow with time. Those who are passionate about the program should be embraced even if we don't all agree with how they demonstrate their passion. The important thing is that they support FAU athletics.

GO OWLS!!!

Jab and Owl Fan: thank you for taking a step back and looking at the bigger picture. There is nothing wrong with criticism - as long as we are working towards a common goal - not just b1tch1ng

Re: "Who let the Owls Out?" Chant

Peyton, maybe you and your wife should bring her arse out there a few times a week and sweat your brains out learning the routines and songs. Then she can complain all she wants.

The band sounded great, the uniforms looked great, and with more numbers will be even more impressive. The key is getting more members and that means getting more high school band members to continue their careers at FAU, and current FAU music majors to contribute to the on-field product.
