2007 Recruiting

2007 Recruiting

Found this in today's Sun-Sentinel. The article doesn't state whether FAU had any commitments or not, however, if you look in BOLD, I have shown who is considering FAU - and what other schools FAU is up against. It's good to see that a recruit is condiering FAU even when they have offers from Miami and Auburn. That means players want immediate playing time.

Colleges missing quality players

While well-known players already are receiving offers and committing to schools all over the country, some have slipped through the cracks.

For Royal Palm Beach linebacker Ernest Ferguson, the spotlight was in his corner last year when running backs Brandon Pendergrass (Wake Forest) and Zach Brown (Wisconsin) had major colleges watching them play.

A full-time linebacker a year ago, the 6-foot, 210-pound Ferguson expanded his role this year. He has moved into the rotation and gave the Wildcats quality minutes on offense and defense.

While Ferguson orally committed to Iowa State, his still plans to take an official visit to Mississippi.

"Ernest is a quality football talent who has given this program everything he has over the past three years," coach Eric Patterson said. "Players like Ernest seem to slip through the recruiting cracks every year. It happens every year, and certainly in Palm Beach County it occurs a lot."

Such is the case with Palm Beach Gardens safety Jasper Bodiford, who has been one of the top area players the past two years. Many are surprised the 5-9, 175-pounder has no firm offers. South Florida, Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Central Florida and South Florida remain on his list of schools.

"You look at a player like Jasper, and it's a total surprise that colleges haven't been banging down his door," said Charles Fishbein, chief scout for MSLSports.net. "I have been watching him since his sophomore year and was sold on the kind of football player he is."

Palm Beach Lakes running back Jaquon Hogan, American Heritage-Delray safety/running back Justin Feagin and Dwyer fullback/defensive end Bruce Stone also haven't been fortunate to get the royal recruiting treatment.

Hogan doesn't have any firm offers. Feagin is looking at Cincinnati and West Virginia. Stone has been offered by Iowa, Southern Mississippi and FAU — while Florida State, Wisconsin and West Virginia remain a possibility.

"For as long as I've been coaching, I see so many talented players being left out to dry until recruiting day comes," Patterson said. "While I know that things happen and athletes are overlooked, Palm Beach County has certainly proved itself when it comes to putting out quality football talent."

Other players who have been getting some looks late in the season include Heritage-Delray running back/cornerback Jake Walker, Dwyer linebacker Kevin Hamlin and receiver Chris Cameron, Lake Worth receiver/defensive back Doug Perry, Park Vista fullback Jeremy Norfus and 6-6, 341-pound offensive guard Danous Estenar from Palm Beach Central, who has USF and Syracuse starting to show interest.

ON THE RECRUITING TRAIL
With the success Pahokee is achieving again this year, Blue Devils linebacker Jatavious Miller has plenty of schools interested. Among the programs keeping an eye on the 5-11, 190-pounder are Miami, Auburn, UCF, FIU, FAU and Florida. …
Jupiter receiver Bryce Wilkinson (6-0, 175) has USF, FAU, FIU, UCF and Furman making a solid pitch. …

After an impressive summer, Atlantic safety John Lejiste (6-0, 180) has watched his stock rise. Nebraska, UCF, Rutgers, West Virginia, USF, Wisconsin and Rutgers have remained in the hunt. …

Palm Beach Central running back David Ahola (5-8, 175) continues to receive attention from Wisconsin and North Carolina State.

COMMITMENTS

i just get the feeling were a safety school. We need to make a bowl game and get the stadium under construction before we advance in our recruiting.

Yeah, it's hard to compete with USF (Big East, ranked this year, nice stadium), UCF (party school, Orlando, on-campus stadium). Almost nobody is going to choose FAU over offers from UF or FSU (well, unless FAU goes up and FSU continues to go down). We shouldn't have a hard time getting recruits over FIU, though, on-campus stadium or not.

Re: 2007 Recruiting

USF - no (rented, with Bucs logos everywhere) stadium, with no sense of home or campus.

UCF - New stadium, but Orlando has nothing (except for theme parks) Palm Beach County does not already have and is missing lots we do have here (like beaches). Oh, and Orlando has much worse traffic.

Look for OL Joe Dawson to re-sign with FAU after doing two years at CC…

6-5, 305 LBS…strong as an ox, and very athletic…he will be a very good offensive lineman in the SBC for sure…and also continue to help us get to the next level on the OL…which we will take a big step forward in next year size and strength wise…
