March 18th's session release via SID Katrina McCormack:

Florida Atlantic University’s football team has donned pads and position battles have begun as the coordinators are looking to complete a spring two-deep. And, know that it will change again in fall camp.

“There are a lot of questions and a lot of competition,” said Roc Bellantoni, FAU’s defensive coordinator. “A lot of guys have made a great deal of progress, but we have to continue to determine who is going to be the first 11 and then the second 11 and then who is going to be able to come in and help us.”

During team work, senior Cre’von LeBlanc, the most experienced defensive back, had a diving pass break-up while Lester Thomas, who continues to have a strong spring in his battle to replace a graduated safety, grabbed a tipped ball just before it hit the ground for an INT.

Offensively, senior receiver Jenson Stoshak caught a ball over his shoulder for a big gain.

March 24th's session release via SID Katrina McCormack:

Florida Atlantic University’s football team began the work week with a balanced practice and was praised by Head Coach Charlie Partridge for finishing the final period, the “challenge period”, pitting offense versus defense to a 3-2, first-to-three win.

Both sides of the ball had highs on the day. Quarterback Jaquez Johnson found tight end Dustin Bowens multiple times to move the chains. Johnson also found Kalib Woods and Jenson Stoshak for scores. In the same period, Sharrod Neasman was credited with breaking up a scoring pass, and Trevon Coley and Ray Ellis combined to break up a Johnson pass. Earlier in the day, DJ Juste and Jake Stewart recorded interceptions and Raekwon Williams broke up a pass.

The competition period was highlighted by Jay Warren big runs and a pass break-up by Cre’von LeBlanc.

“We certainly think that we will be a much better offense as a whole,” said Brian Wright, FAU’s offensive coordinator, when asked about the offensive line following practice. “It starts up front. We need those guys to lead the way for us. They have had a great off-season in the weight room. We had them on the squat rack three days a week and we are starting to see some of that pay off right now in spring ball.”

FAU will open its practice Saturday, March 28 to the public. The practice will be held at FAU Stadium and it is expected to be a live practice for the quarterbacks.

Notables from today via SID Katrina McCormack:

The Florida Atlantic University football team took to the practice Thursday morning where the team work focused on plays within the red zone and then followed up with the offense moving out of the red zone.

Every quarterback got work under center and the Owls worked to score both on the ground and through the air. Wide receiver Calvain Holmes pulled in a scoring pass from Jason Driskel. Newcomer Daniel Parr saw two of his attempts either batted down or taken away.

Defensively, spring addition Alfred Ansley was credited with an INT while fellow walk-on Andy Bien-Amie broke up a pass.

The last period competition saw the offense win their second-consecutive challenge, to end the day and move past the halfway point of the 2015 spring practice opportunity.
