5 Days and counting!!

They do have a lot of vets who may be ready for mid season already ;)

The secondary is not as bad as some may perceive. If you look at some of the teams we played and the defensive sets we ran, it may shed some light on the positions.
The teams who were bigger across the front gave us the most trouble. Passing teams!
We stayed in the 53 D until obvious passing downs and we very rarely biltzed. We then went to the Nickle package when they needed less that 10 yards.

My take:
If we showed different coverages, the QB wouldn't have as much time to throw. Straight bull/stunt rushing will not work for us all the time. Remember our D line was VERY undersized. We didn't get to the QB on every play. I remember he blitzed in an early game last season and he got a standing ovation. Honest! You have to keep the offense unbalanced for our DB's to make consistant plays.

DB's:
TJ Osbourne quit the team and his replacement,Amaya, went down early with an injury.
FS Terry played well after returning from a 2002 injury. FR/SS Roundtree started at both positions last year. He brought the hits.
FS/SS Rodgers also started or filled in for both and performed well. He also started/played at CB last year.
CB Skinner is very quick to the ball and only need a little more weight at that position.
CB Hughley. What can I say. The guy is good. Very good eye for the ball.

So you've heard of coverage sacks when the DB's blanket the recievers. Well I'm a firm believer of QB pressure INT's where the QB don't have time to make good decisions.

Sorry about the long answer but this one couldn't be answered in a few sentences.

What happened to Andy Rosas' request for another year of eligibility? If he's not back, who is the punter?

I haven't heard anything yet. The last was that it was still under review. I honestly don't remember seeing anyone else even fooling around with the ball punting. ???
They say that Joel Fosselman can punt. He wanted to move there to back-up Rosas until Jahn went down and he had to stay as back up for Allen.
I don't recall FAU recruiting a punter this year.
This should be answered by Wednesday practice I hope.

I think that injuries did not help last year, some players did have to be moved around a bit and I think it started to show during the game against Garner Webb when we changed our defensive set, 4-3 to a 3-4 D. The guys just weren't as agressive kind of laying back a bit to much.

My biggest concern on defense is stopping opponents from converting on third and long - we allow way to many last year. It almost like we played a soft keep it in front of you defense - good example of that was the MTSU game, last play of the game, the MTSU defender played keep it in front of you and got caught flat footed and allowed Bynes to run right around him with little effort.

Look at the UCF game, how many times we had UCF in third and long (some times very long), it seems like everytime they converted on a long third down play they went on to score some points. It was a problem that plaqued us all season, an area we must improve on.

We played great defense when we were agressive, in your face type of D, we may give up some big plays here and there, but allows our CB to make big plays as well. I have never been a fan of soft & prevent defense.

It would drive me nuts when the defense did that, instead of staying agressive. We never have been a big blitzing team and agree with you that we need to do more with different formations and coverages to keep the offense confused.

Hopefully with a bigger DL this year we can get more pressure on the QB's which should help the secondary out.

The coaches must be confident that we can get Rosas back in not signing another punter unless they expect a couple of walk-ons to compete for the job - special teams have been great for us and losing him will be huge, how many time he pinned opponents inside the twenty.
