A must read Tweet .....makes me say wow

Ok guys/ladies…..let's be fair.  I know you are disappointed in the season so far and with good reason.  However, understand that this is the coaching staffs first year!  There was a certain air of excitement when Pelini and staff were hired and  came to the campus.  Guess what? We have to keep that same attitude for the players.  I believe that it normally takes a coach 2-3 years to put his stamp on a program.  There are those rare occasions where it may take less, but those occasions are very rare.  So, my question to all the bashers, "Are you really being fair, or were you looking for instant gratification?"  As to the "closed" practices, does it really make that much of a difference if the practice is closed or open?  There may be a very good reason why he has the practices closed.  I have met Coach Pelini as well as much of the staff and find them to be very approachable.  Don't let what others think cloud your mind and be positive if for nothing else, the kids that play for the university.  They deserve your support and loyalty! SALUTE THE HOOT! RIDE OR DIE FOR THE BLUE AND RED!

P.S. I respect everyone's opinion, but my son will be on the field next year and I would like to think that he and his teammates have the unyielding support of the FAU community!

I don't think we can put this on the fans.  It is a choice to support the teams, not a job. It is however the coach and AD's job to give fans a reason to go.  Most of us on this board are diehard fans that will continue to root for FAU no matter what but we're mostly alumni and have a special bond with the school, and we're a very small percentage of the population.  Realistically, if I'm a local resident with no affiliation to the school, I could probably find something a lot better to do on a Saturday than watch a 1-11 football team play.  No one likes a loser.  It's not the fans fault, its the programs fault.

The problem isn't JUST this year or last year.  Have you all forgotten that we lacked fan support even when we were winning?  FAU students and alumni need to take ownership of the program.  There's always going to be an excuse.  First it was the stadium, now it's that the team sucks.  Next it will be times of the games, or the schedule or it may rain….

I'm afraid that the real problem is that the people with the greatest connection to the team (students and alumni) just don't care enough.  THAT is on the fans.  The quickest way to improve this program is to increase support.  More support means better players want to come here, which means more wins, and more money for the program.  Yes, it is up to the coaches to get the team winning…and yes, it's the AD's job to promote the program better…but as long as there are more students like the guy in this thread who just go tailgate on Saturday but cannot be bothered to go watch the game, what difference will any of that make?  This team will win again, but the program will only become a true success when people really start caring about going to games and supporting their school.  I hope I'm wrong.  Hopefully, once we start winning, it'll be different than before because we are on campus, but given our apathetic history, I won't believe it until I see it.

Re: A must read Tweet .....makes me say wow

I have had SUCH a swing of emotion this weekend. So frustrated on Saturday night after the loss that I actually had decided to give the rest of my tickets this year away. My wife talked me down from the ledge.

I avoid this board like the PLAGUE after a loss like that because of mine (and obviously others) emotional state.

Today is Monday and I have come to the conclussion I tweeted out earlier today.

#FAUFootball Tough to be a fan right now, but I have faith. #owlnation it will get better. These kids have heart.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

Re: A must read Tweet .....makes me say wow

I wasn't expecting a 6 win season but at least 3 wins, but from how its looking its going to be tough but we still have many games to go so maybe this loss will help get the players and coaches heads out their asses. I personally want to see the playbook opened up more, our running back Jackson is a burner. Run some plays to utilize his skills get him on the edge and let him make plays in the open field. Dukes is a standout, the coaches have to do their homework to set up match ups with our playmakers and get the ball in their hands. Dorvilous and Deleon are match up problems for linebackers that cant run with them and corners that are to short to make a play on the ball when its thrown up. We have good sized redzone targets in those two and Mitchell use them when we are in scoring position. Last year coach Jackson ran a pretty boring offense and the players didn't like it at all. The coaches talk about the players having more fun on the field well they cant if the OC is to conservative in his play calling. Its time to take risk and let it fly whats the worst that can happen. I'm a FAU fan all day and i dint get excited when i see the team play because the team isn't excited if you want energy in the stands and from the fans its has to start on the field first.

Re: A must read Tweet .....makes me say wow

I have a buddy who works in Mizner and saw Pelini walking down the street. My friend approached him knowing he was FAU's coach and tried to simply say hello. Pelini wouldn't give him the time of the day. Not very approachable person if you ask me.

Lets also keep in mind Pelini also supposedly punched a cameraman after Nebraska lost to Texas A&M in 2010.

FAUOWLFAN11….. I think it would be safe to say that your opinion fits in line with the majority of the posters. Once we found out German was not happening, the goal was 2-3 wins. I have a sick feeling we will have 1. Not that Wilbert is playing bad, because he isn't. But the fact that the top teams have top QB's that look at ease throwing or running. Lets look forward to next year with high hopes…..again.

Re: A must read Tweet .....makes me say wow

Thank you for your insight owlmom. It's hard for us as fans to watch the games, and I can't imagine how hard it is on the players and their families.  We may gripe and moan at times, but we are all fans no matter what.  Every week I fly my FAU flag from the front of my house so everyone in the neighborhood knows I'm an owl, hell, even my poor dog has to wear his FAU bandana on saturdays.  Point being we do support the players and the team, we just need a place like this to vent.

As for players, I'm looking forward to seeing Burton next year, and I'd like to see what Dukes does, but I haven't had a chance to yet.  I would really like to see M. Jackson get more plays, I think he is lightning fast.  Can someone tell me why he does not get the plays?  I know he had some control issues vs. Wagner, but we should still use him more.
