A new look at conference expansion

Going to the Big East would be great except that if all this conference expansion happens and the Big East doesn't fold they may get their AQ spot taken away from them. So while we can say we are a member of the Big East it may not mean much except for better bowls than the Sun Belt

They didn't when they lost Miami, Virginia Tech, and BC.  Still think they are the weakest of the automatic conferences.

Re: A new look at conference expansion

Sounds like the Big12 in serious troble. I think the four remaining could merge in CUSE to give them a 16 team superconference. Picking up Kansas, Kansas St., Iowa ST. and Baylor would be good for them. Mtn. West and WAC can "merge" too. So there would be Big16, ACC+Big East, Pac16, CUSA and Mtn.West/WAC as I see it, at least 5 "superconferences, not the four being "pushed for. The MAC and some Belt/Independets could also go to 16 teams easily.

We will be on the outside looking in.  I don't think the TV market will do that much for us.  They don't need FAU to dominate our market.  The SEC could put games on in our market and dominate the market, no one needs FAU to do that.  I believe this all is going to be bad timing for us.  We are simply too young  >:(

Re: A new look at conference expansion

Well it seems like the conference shakeup is about to begin.  Nebraska is going to the Big 10, and it appears that 6 other Big 12 teams are heading to the Pac10.  It's going to be very interesting to see where everyone else lands.  Since we STILL have yet to get our facilities in order, it appears that we are going to miss out on any major move upward.  I haven't followed this all that closely, but it seems like the best we can do is a move to CUSA, or more likely, a merger of teams from other leagues like CUSA and the MAC.

A move up to C-USA isn't necessarily a bad thing. More bowl tie-ins. More TV time. Better overall conference for baseball and basketball.

I wouldn't be opposed to a CUSA move

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Absoluetly not.  But with the way things look like they are heading, CUSA may not exist post expansion..at least as we know it now.  It seems like a merger of conferences is more likely as other conferences break apart.

yeah, I think we are getting caught up in the names of conferences.  We may be in the Big East, but it may not mean anything.

It's going to be conferences of the Haves and The Have Nots and I am not sure if any of the Have Nots will have an impact on the new order of college football.

My question is: where the hell is the ncaa in all this?  They don't seem to have any control over the organization of their members in any way.
