Since we keep them on the schedule fairly often my vote goes for USF.  In state, same age program (close), and while they own the record, we gave them a scare at Lockhart and we are hungry for a win next year.
Both teams have to see it as a rivalry USF would not they did not even want UCF as a rival they felt they were way above them before UCF went to the bigeast

Very true but they have been given a big bowl of humble pie this year.  I think their fanbase will be a little more realistic the next few years.  Plus, I'm just a big fan of in state matchups.

FAU - We got Bowls!

i personally see troy as a rival, we have always had a losing record to them and just now beat them the first time at home. Say next year rolls around, we will want to stay on top and they will want redemption for losing to a 1-7 team. I could see it heating up and turning into something interesting, especially if we start beating them more.

Re: After FIU, who will be our rival?

Because we are so South on the tip of Florida, not having another in state team hurts. GSU's closest teams ar MTSU, Troy, USA, WKU, ULM, and THEN FAU. And, if the SBC picks up App St and Georgia Southern, then add two more to the list before FAU. Despite that, I think the similarity of our two schools, programs, and communities will spark some what of a little rivaly. Not as big as FIU, but still something.
I'm not sure if any of you know this, but Troy is actually the closest school to FAU, beating out GSU by about 100 miles in total distance from Boca, and USA by 160 (I think). But let's be real here, nobody in South Florida, or any where in Florida knows or cares about Troy University and Troy, Alabama.
We've played USA once, and I already dislike them. They have a good size fan base after justt a few years of playing football, and that will only go up once they get an on campus stadium. But USA and Troy still have each other and their 170 intrastate miles seperating them.
If GaSo comes into the conference, they will be out closest SBC mate by only 20 or so miles. But the FCS history between ourselves can't be ignored (FAU football and history? Sure, I'll take it).  But they already don't like GSU, and App St.
So, let's recap.
Culture wise, we're closest to GSU, but we're very far from them
Distance wise, we have Troy and USA, but they have each other already.
GaSo and App St could step up to the plate, but GSU and MTSU already have a natural rivalry between them.
Long story short, this leaves Texas St. TxSt could be a good draw and spark some serious competition between the two schools that are nessled in between 2 media markets (WPB-FTL/MIA and Austin-SA) that are both growing at an unreal rate. And having the name TEXAS in your school name helps as well. While they do have the UL sisters and A-State, I think the distance from those schools will play into our favor.

Unless TxSt schedules UTSA yearly, then we're f****d

I really need a life.

I agree with Troy.  I don't despise Troy like I do the kitties but I do believe it could turn into a solid rivalry over the years.

Regarding the kitties going to CUSA,  look up RPI or any conference rankings and they are at the very bottom.  So much for moving up.

Who should FAU's SBC rival be?

Ok, come over and vote on the SBC board.

By the way, a TxState poster has offered themselves up with glorious good natured smack as have GSU.

Troy is already rivals with MTSU and soon to be USA. Other than 2007 and this year they just own our arses in football.

That is why it could become a good rivalry.

For us not for them.  8)

They already have a rivalry with MTSU and soon to be USA, whom they have had a FCS rivalry with.

As OC40 said you cant really force these things, but you have to start somewhere.

TxState could be fun to hate.
