After FIU, who will be our rival?

i personally see troy as a rival, we have always had a losing record to them and just now beat them the first time at home. Say next year rolls around, we will want to stay on top and they will want redemption for losing to a 1-7 team. I could see it heating up and turning into something interesting, especially if we start beating them more.

I agree with Troy.  I don't despise Troy like I do the kitties but I do believe it could turn into a solid rivalry over the years.

Regarding the kitties going to CUSA,  look up RPI or any conference rankings and they are at the very bottom.  So much for moving up.

Don't kid yourself - although it is probably a down year for them, C USA is still a step up in an overall conference.

I still think FIU will be the main rival, and I would bet a few years down the road we probably get invited into C USA.

As an overall conference but not football.  I think The Belt is at least even there.

I don't necessarily disagree that football wise it's similar - especially considering the schools leaving C USA. But in the long run even football wise it is going to be a step up due to the structure and profile of the conference (although not as big a step up as FIU fans would want you to believe). But in every respect (academic profile especially, other sports, structure, national exposure) C USA is just a superior conference. I think in a few years when expansion comes back around and we get the program back on track we will get the call.

LOL That's a bit of an exaggeration…

They might be better overall, but Football runs the show… and given a few years when we get back on track and things begin to shift again, we will see if SBC is still rising and playing close games and upsetting ranked teams and if CUSA is still declining… TV contracts change, conference orders change… CUSA is not the same conference, what good teams they had, LEFT! And then hell SBC might be going above and beyond and the place to stay.

Even in basketball this season, we have some big wins with USA and Troy winning over big programs.

Let's just not be so quick to jump ship, sit back and ride the wave and see the best option for us in a few years. First we need to dominate the belt to prove we deserve moving anywhere!

GO OWLS!

hopefully no one, we need to move forward, not backward.

though I wouldn't mind App, need a SBC team close to (my) home.

Ap. St. and Ga. St. decent FCS programs but add NOTHING in terms of media size for the conference. I hate that CUSA took Charlotte (UNC-Charlotte to me! But at least they added the Charlotte media market to their base.
I guess the Belt or whoever would claim the Asheville, NC  as the Boone, NC media market and Savannah. GA as the Statesboro, GA media markets.

Markets are overrated just cause you are in a market does not mean people pay attention  to you alot of big time programs are in small markets The Belt needs schools with tradition and fan support not the GSU's of the world yea they are in Atlanta but no one in Atlanta cares. We need App State who gets 30k a games and would only increase if went to D-1 and Georgia southern who all ready has a fan base.

You can say markets are overrated but CUSA took a decent market with NO exisitng team, with no stadium at the time (and still a joke if you look at what they have gone ahead and built (15K), no lights, even knowing they were joining the FBS and CUSA) at the time, that STILL has not played their 1st game, over FAU with a brand new 30,000 seat stadium and the Boca market. It was NOT the football team or stadium or even national prominence in ANY other sport that got them the invite over us.

Not Georgia State, Georgia Southern. Georgia State is already slated to be in the SBC and they are in Atlanta. That is a big market.

Georgia Southern and App State would be potential teams for the SBC when the next additions are made.

For now, Georgia State is an obvious rivalry game given geography. Still sucks that FIU is running away.
