An Open Letter to AD Pat Chun in Support of Brian Wright as Head Coach

I actually just looked at the comments to the Yahoo article.  I will be back later.  I need to go take a shower and get clean after reading the incredibly personal derogatory remarks about some really good people.

Some real awful comments about little, inconsequential FA "who" huh! Sad they our recognition and respect is so bad among collegiate football fans is it not? But then again, I beleive most fans of the BigBoy conferences still feel this way about Boise too!

On a positive note, I was wearing an FAU hoodie today and a lady turns and asks "is that FAU?" Of course I said yes and she tells me her brother graduated from FAU although she was a Gator. I was nice and let any Muschamp or bowl eligibilty comments go silent, she was being nice afterall. I am amazed at how many people up here in North Georgia recognize the name and the UGA and Auburn fans I know and have met are very respectful of FAU.

Yahoo and Rivals boards are known for the dreggs they allow to post (and write their articles/blogs sometimes too - ha ha!).!

GO OWLS! 4 in a row Friday night!

I understand walty's position especially in light of being stuck with Jarvis right now. For me personally I'm going to bite and support Wright and hope it works out.

- If you're worried whether Brian Wright can handle "all the things that come with being a head coach", he already is handling them. The day-to-day, he's doing that and still winning by decisive margins. Yes we've played bad teams but we won 55-10, not 21-10, something we easily could have done in the past. As someone pointed out we were still the "heart attack owls" (Ted Hutton's words) even when we were a bowling team with Rusty Smith at the helm. We were still barely getting over the hump.

- He hasn't engaged the community to drum up ticket sales beyond the coach's show. I guess you could hold that against him.

- Will he keep the current staff? If he's winning and feels like he's in a good place with everybody on a personal level - as he has mentioned - why wouldn't he? He'll fill in a couple holes of course, but there's very little reason given thus far to think he would clean house. That would be stupid IMO.

- Recruiting, well, hard to recruit when neither party knows if they'll be around next year. We've all acknowledged that. I can't imagine Pelini knew many more people in Florida than Wright and co have contacts with right now, especially since Jared Allen is still on the staff. I can imagine Wright, as passionate as he is about FAU, coming into a recruit's living room with a potential 6-6 record (and "undefeated since he took over") being really effective with his pitch even if wasn't, say, Eddie Gran. I believe recruits WANT to play for the best program they can, that they WANT To play in a stadium by the beach in 80 degree weather in one of the nicest cities in Florida, so really they just need a passionate coach at a winning program to make them pull the trigger on FAU. After watching his interviews, wouldn't you feel confident sending him out there to seal the deal?

- Can he win against good teams? Subjective. Nobody knows. It's easier to beat teams like Miami when you're at a Big Ten/SEC school with a mix of 4 and 5 star recruits, so when we look at assistants from those schools it seems very attractive because they "know how it's done." I've argued for that very thing. But how does that translate over to OUR situation? What coach can we decisively say could do that with all 3 star recruits here at FAU? It's almost like we want to be assured that we'll become "the next Boise State" and we can't decisively know who's going to be that guy who could get us there.

As far as recruiting goes, from what I read (and someone correct me if I'm wrong), neither Pelini and Rekstis were key to the FAU recruiting efforts.  Wright and/or the rest of the staff were the people out recruiting.  So if you think that FAU has done a good job of bringing in talent the last two years, than I don't think that would change much with Wright in charge. If anything, recruiting would likely only get better given the team's recent success.  It can't be easy to recruit kids to a team that won 4 games over 2 seasons.

Coach Wright is absolutely the guy that should get the FAU Head Coaching job.  Wright rallied the troops just two days before playing bowl bound Tulane and FAU humiliated them with over 350 yard of total offense & a score of 34 - 17.  Under coach Wright this has been the most productive offense at FAU since 2007.   If we lose coach Wright we also lose assistant head coach Jeff Sims who is arguably the most connected coach to the JUCO players in the country. Without Coach Wright and Coach Sims leadership and JUCO connections, the following players would not be OWL's:#1   Lucky Whitehead    Starting WR#2   Brandin Bryant       Starting  DL#4   Adarias Glanton      Starting  LB#7   Melvin German       Starting  WR#8   Daniel Mckenny      Starting  WR#12 Quez Johnson         Starting  QB#26 Jeremy Mcnight      Starting  FS#27 Jonathan Wallace    Starting  RB#58 Mustafa Johnson     Starting  C#80 Darian Howard        Starting  TEIf coach Wright leaves, so does Offensive Coordinator & O- Line Coach, Luke Meadows, RB coach Kerry Dixon, Defensive Coordinator Jovan Dewitt, DB Coach Ross Watkins, D Line Coach Matt Edwards, Strength and Conditioning Coach Chuck Lobe and TE Coach and FAU Hall of Fame alumni Jared Allen.Lets keep this talented and committed group of coaches and their families here at FAU!Go Owls!

Wright has the right stuff. The players love him and he is getting results on the field.

Gotta say I am sold now! He and the players pulled together from a disaster I have NEVER heard of happening mid-season and won out. Even today they won despite not playing NEARLY their best football and still won by 15!

Great job and congrats to all the Coaches and the players for a great end to the regular season. i hope you get the chance to continue playing this year in a bowl game and that the Coaches get to stay in Boca to continue to build on the momentum this program now has!

The future looks great with a returning qb for 2 more years to start with!
