Another article (blog) calling Smith and Tebow the best QBs in Florida

From a UF reporter for the Miami Herald:
Back on the case: Comparing FAU's Smith and UF's Tebow | Gator Clause

"While in New Orleans covering Florida Atlantic's win over Memphis, several fans and reporters asked me how FAU quarterback Rusty Smith compares to Florida's Tim Tebow. After watching both quarterbacks this season – the New Orleans Bowl was my second time to see Smith at his best – I feel confident in writing that Tebow and Smith are the state's two best quarterbacks"

Man, that's awesome. I don't know what's better…the fact that the Herald is actually talking about FAU and Rusty, or the UF/FAU comparison. I love it! To be honest, I don't know if T-bone(head) would have the smarts to keep up with our complex offensive scheme. ;D
Sorry, I just don't like the dude (my daughter goes to FSU). UF is building a team around him, and they will pay the price eventually. Look at Bo Williams and Bryan Waggener (along with a few other) transferring out. Too much focus on T-bone(head)=not enough for others.

As good as Rusty is, we have to keep in mind that traditional powers such as FSU and Miami have very poor QBs. In the past all of the "BIG 3" had pretty solid QBs. I am not taking anything away from Rusty, just looking at the competition and it is pretty weak other than Tebow. That is part of the reason that Rusty is the #2 QB in the state.

Tebow was very close to being an Owl and the guy is a solid player that just makes plays.

Rusty has come a long way in one season and we can expect for him to continue to improve & a long with the development of our receiving core as a group we have much to look forward too.  I predicting that our offense would improve on pts per game from a dismal 13pts/gm to 21pts/gm this year, well we all know that was eclipsed and I expect that numbers to be about 45pts/gm next year.

What do you mean?  I have not heard that one of the most heavily recruited QBs in the state was close to being an Owl.

He had given an Oral to FAU and Tebow went under the radar for the most part until the All-Star game which only then did all the Big school started to droll and fight over Tebow - the same year we had another oral from another QB that went to NIU who since has left that team.

Wow, i didn't know we gave Tebow an oral………I'm not sure if he would have been used to his full potential within Howard's system.  I cant see Howard allowing him to run like Urban does…..and I'm sure he wouldn't be as effective as a cheerleader here…..the uf fans eat him up!

In all fareness, the rest of the Big 3 might be down as far as QBs but for 2008 Rusty is placed as #11 in the nation…so not just #2 in the state.  This goes far beyond a lack of depth in state schools, it is the fact that we have a high quality quarterback at FAU, a BCS conference caliber QB.

This cant be true.  I remember watching him on ESPN way before the All-Star game as one of the top recruits in the nation and he had a huge game.  The announcers were talking about all the big schools recruiting him.  I am pretty sure the game was in the beginning of September his Senior year.

Yeah, that doesn't seem right at all. He was heavily recruited since his junior year of HS football. Where are the Gator fans when you need them? I'm sure they'd know.
