Are we exactly where we should be in this point of the season?

Post

Only WKU has a D line as good as Marshall, La Tech just exposed S. Miss - learn from it owls!

FAU should have no problems with ODU (which is a disaster) or UTSA (nearing disaster). That’s six wins. FIU can’t stop the run and they only beat FAU when FAU plays down to FIU’s level. Give me that game as seven.

I’m unsure about WKU and USM. Weather will be interesting in both of those. I need to see WKU against Marshall. I take their victory over UAB with a gain of salt, that was a bit flukey. USM looked ‘eh’ yesterday but La. Tech looks good this year.

I mention weather not just because November in Bowling Green (❄️❄️❄️??) but possibility of a hot late November day against USM. You put them in the sun, that may be some added home field.

7-5 means 7-3 after Ohio State and UCF. That’s fine. Not great but given all of the concerns, it’s fine. 8-4 should be the goal and I think it’s still doable.

There isn't a single game with this roster we can go into and say this is "no problem".  We had the same mentality last year and watched us lose to bad CUSA teams (some at home).

We are in a dog fight to get to 7 wins.  It is what it is.  Should be fun to watch and I hope we get there.

Personally,  I think 6-6 is a real possibility here.  Hope I am wrong but this has a lot more of a 2018 feel...not 2017.  Lane is going to have to patch these holes we have.  And the defense better start playing better.  We made Marshall's RB look like Jerome Bettis in his prime.  They didn't even have a QB that could stretch the field.

Yeah I’m a tad nervous. I think we get to six wins with ODU and UTSA left on the schedule. But the rest is a toss up and right now I have zero confidence we go into Bowling Green and win that game.

I don’t think the team has shown enough consistency this year to think FIU and USM games are guaranteed wins.

Will be a lot of close games the next 5 weeks.

Um…Knox is 2nd best back in CUSA and they DID stretch the field with 59 and 60 yard TD passes - with God awful plays by our DB's! We did score 31 on Marshall D (only top 20 Cincy scored more) but D crapped the bed with a poor game, especially final drives of each half. Allowed 13 points right there plus meaning 23 rest of game including 2 gifted by CR!

This team is neither 2017 nor 2018. If this was the 2018 team, they’d have lost against Ball State, Charlotte and/or MTSU when those games were still close. FAU will be fine. Not worth pressing the panic button yet.

They "stretched" the field due to broken plays by our defense.  Not due to the talent of that QB.  That QB was nothing special, the MTSU kid was much more talented.

We have a ton of seniors on the DL and LB.  We should have been able to contain that run (should have looked like Charlotte game) and it wouldn't have even been a contest.  All I heard about with this DC was how hard it was to run against UNCC when he was there.  We have the talent up front…its our veteran unit.  I would think Glen could be effective with what he has.

Offense played ok…we had a terrible game running the ball.  I am not talking about YPC by our backs.  I am talking overall team (including 5-6 pathetic QB keeps).  Without the negative yards from those runs and the sacks, I think we ran for maybe 115 yards as a team?  We were up 14-3, if we could have been effective on the ground...again, no contest.

What I am getting at is, from what I've seen I dont feel that any win is an easy win.  We will have to play well to beat anybody.  That is fine, but lets get to it.

Define "fine"?

Not panic, just having conversations about the holes on this team and where we are truly at after the first half of the season.

I come on here and read "run the table" talk every week.  I think we should be a little more realistic about our expectations.

The line doesn't exist, but I'd love to see a Vegas line on the O/U in the remaining 5 games.  We have to win 3 of them to go bowling.  I'd bet Vegas would put that at even money, which is where we should adjust our expectations to.

Fine just in terms of FAU isn’t going to collapse and the Marshall game isn’t a foreshadowing of what’s to come. They’re getting healthier and I think Friday was a wake up call for the defense.

I think 2017 spoiled expectations because of what the top with Kiffin looked like. Like I said earlier, 7-3 after the opening gauntlet and a bowl win to put you at 8-5, 8-3 in the last 11 is not at all a bad season. They’ll be disappointed they didn’t win conference but it’s still a step forward.

I agree, I dont think winning 3 of our remaining 5 is collapsing.  And yes, we'd have an 8 win season with a bowl victory.

We come back next year with a lot of young talent and a best QB in conference.

In all of that, things will be fine.

The ONLY thing I think that may prevent that from happening is OLine.  It has to play better for us to go to bowl.
