Assistant Coaches Carl Pelini Could Hire

the background check process is 3-4 days to vett these candidates…he should have already hired a few and they can't announce it until we're sure there are no skeletons.

Maybe it's the pessimist in me, but one would think by now, Pelini would have announced at least some new hires.

Afterall he won the HC job because he "included an 18-page booklet, with a customized cover that included an FAU logo, sections on his mission statement, coaching philosophy and a plan on how he would set up a recruiting network at FAU."

You would think, since he won job for his "plan", that he would already be putting that plan into action.

He just got the job on Monday.  Give it a week.  I'm sure jobs have been offered.  I'd expect to hear who the assistants by early next week.

I agree, plus he is out hitting high schools and going to Groza Awards banquet probably to talk to boosters and possible sources of money. I also think the staff announcements will happen next week.

I love how the guy has been on the job for 5 days and some of us expect 4 star athletes to sign with us immediately and that we should have had coaches in place already.  Come on Carl, you're slacking!

I know people are anxious and they want change but give the guy a chance. As the saying goes, Rome wasn't built in a day

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

In response to the above,  That would then have to apply to all the coaches.   It's obviously easier to coach a good player!  It's all about recruiting and FAU has to expand out of their comfort zone otherwise it will remain the same with or without new coaches.   GO OWLS!!!

I've already responded to this type post before.  No, its not all about recruiting.  Pelini and Mattison wouldn't have been able to take thier respective defenses to near dead last in the nation to top 10 in one season if it was.  UF, Notre Dame, Texas and UCLA would all be in the top 10 if it was.

I think if you have been around football long enough you can tell when a player just isn't talented enough to play at a certain level.  I think most on this board agree that Wilbert's problem was talent.

Well I have been around football my entire life , and we can agree to disagree, but it starts with recruiting and FAU needs to get to a point where they are not always getting the leftovers.
I believe talent was a problem with many positions on this team.  Coaches have been albe to develop many good playesrs in the past, I have seen it over  many years of following this program.  Not an issue I feel much like debating as it is just my oopinion and this is what this board is for.  Right? :)

We agree that we need better talent, but getting a lot of four and five star recruits may be possible in the future, but getting a winning team is a priority.

I listened to the coachs show on espn760.com and they had Pelini on in the last 1/2 hour or so. He said he was hopeful that he'd have his coachs down and working over the weekend or at the latest on Monday.

Sounds like offers are out there. Background checks and salary being done.

I have come here to chew bubble gum and kick @$$ and I'm out of bubble gum.

I would have to argue that Florida's defense is just as great as Michigan's this season, if not even better. Look at the numbers:

Florida

Total Defense: 299.6 ypg (9th in the nation)
Scoring Defense: 20.6 ppg (25th)
Pass Defense: 167.3 ypg (9th)
Rushing Defense: 132.33 ypg (40th)
Interceptions: 8 (T-91st)
Sacks: 22 (T-67th)
Opponents 3rd Conversion: 27.54 % (2)
Schedule (current BCS standings): @ #1 LSU, #2 Alabama, @ #9 South Carolina, #16 Georgia, @ #25 Auburn

Michigan

Total Defense: 317.6 ypg (18th in the nation)
Scoring Defense: 17.5 ppg (T-7th)
Pass Defense: 188.5 ypg (16th)
Rushing Defense: 129.08 ypg (36th)
Interceptions: 8 (T-91st)
Sacks: 28 (T-29th)
Opponents 3rd Conversion: 36.08 % (T-29th)
Schedule: @ #17 Michigan State, #20 Nebraska

I was referring to UF being 6-6 and having the #1 recruiting class 2 years ago and being in the top 10 year in and year out along with those other schools…you can even throw FSU in there.  My point is its not all about recruiting.

If you look at that class from 2 years ago the 4 five-stars all currently start on the defense and 10 of the 17 four-stars were on defense.

You guys might have seen this already. I don't want to say where it came from cause the source said "you didn't here it from me", but FAU faithfull all know the source very well:

"That said, you might want to check out the Montana State FCS quarterfinal playoff game against No. 1 Sam Houston. Check out the Montana State offense – and its coordinator."

I think that would be Brian Wright.
