I read somewhere that the attendance was somewhere in the 14,500 range.  Im not even gonna get into a debate about what the actual # was but what im trying to figure out is why there was an obvious large drop off in attendance for this game compared to others.  Especially when our team is playing at its best and playing the #1 team in the conference???????????

I was at the game…now way there was that many people there.

Re: attendance

I think there was a fraternity and sorority social Friday night. Maybe a fund raiser too?

And when I was IFC president, I tried so hard to make sure Greeks didn't play anything on game day weekends. But as a Greek, I can kind of see their point as well:

We have 12 weeks to get our new members into our group. 9 of those weeks we have to do stuff - and one of those weeks is Thanksgiving. So we only have 10. Inevitably, they will miss some games.

But from what I've heard, Greeks have done pretty well showing up at games this year.

In the beginning of the year, when they made their schedules, they probably thought this ULL game would be pointless and decided to show up in droves at the FIU game? Let's hope…

Re: attendance

It is pretty disappointing to hear people already talking about how they are finding excuses to not go to Dolphin stadium. We have shown more loyalty to our team than FIU has in the past. Let's not fall into that lack of interest on our team like they do. Let's show up in numbers so we can demonstrate once again why we are a better football team. I know some of you think that FIU fans are polite, but I recently read some disturbing comments coming from them on how we were a stepping stone for their program and how of a joke our program is. Are these guys delusional? or what? They also said that our school was the place for all students that were not accepted to enroll. They even mentioned that FAU should pick another rival like WKU which accordingly to them is at our level and that FAU was just another NT or ULM for them.
anyways! please show up at the game!!!!!!
is FAU providing transportation to DS against Florida International? (FIU fans get really upset when you refer FIU as Florida International)

Well sure they can argue that we are a stepping stone toward a bowl game since they have to beat us to get there but "get another rival" is a little preposterous.

Shula Bowl will be interesting this year!

Re: attendance

Last time I checked, games still are won on the field, not in the mouths and dreams of FIU supporters.

I still don't understand why we always play FIU at Dolphin Stadium, first of all it costs us more money and if it is our "home game" this year then why not make FIU drive up to Lockhart? We probably still won't fill the stadium…..

That being said… last weekend had horrible attendance… the student section was practically empty and so was the donor/family sections… FAU should market every game on campus, did they still provide transportation for students to the game?

Maybe we should just have a permanent thread explaining why we still play 1 home game at DS every year.  It seems this question is asked every few days…

In order to get out of the original contract with DS, we had to agree to play a game there each year.  Every other year it is the FIU game.  I'm sure that once we get a stadium on campus, they'll work on buying out the rest of the deal(I think it runs through 2012 or 2013).  I'm actually suprised that DS hasn't wanted to get out of the deal already now that UM is a permanent tenant.

No, we have played at FIU a couple of games in the past.  The DS deal only applies to our home games.  We played last year at the OB because FIU's stadium was being rebuilt, but that was their home game.

Re: attendance

Never really attended many of the FIU games in the past but this year will be crucial!!! The last game I saw at DS was our victory over the Golden Gophers…  :)
