Thanks!!! I didn't know that… kinda sucks… does this also explain why we have never played a game in FIU stadium yet??? I assume so…
I am sorry for the correction!!!
We played at FIU stadium in 2005 when the beat us for the only and first time. The stadium was not as nice as it is right now, but we did play there. FAU filled the entire visitors are while FIU had like 10 fans on their stands.
GO OWLS!!!
According to records, there were 15,322 people at the 2005 FAU vs. FIU game at FIU Stadium. I highly doubt that 15,312 of those were FAU fans. Honestly guys, what is with the vast exagerrations? I know we're supposed to be rivals, but you're making it sound as if we don't support our team which is false (we're averaging 15,644 at home games this year) and making it seem as though we spend our days talking crap about you guys which is not true. If you really see the conversations going on about the FAU game on the FIU page, it's really civil. None of these harmful, disturbing, rude comments that some here allege.

It's true. I was looking for some of these comments described here and I couldn't find them on either the FIU version of OwlsNest or the FIU Rivals board (the free one anyway). Maybe someone could post a link.
The "worst" I found was someone saying we shouldn't be an issue for them and I think that was written back during the MTSU/Troy stretch when they were up and we were down…

I think there was a fraternity and sorority social Friday night. Maybe a fund raiser too?
And when I was IFC president, I tried so hard to make sure Greeks didn't play anything on game day weekends. But as a Greek, I can kind of see their point as well:
We have 12 weeks to get our new members into our group. 9 of those weeks we have to do stuff - and one of those weeks is Thanksgiving. So we only have 10. Inevitably, they will miss some games.
But from what I've heard, Greeks have done pretty well showing up at games this year.
In the beginning of the year, when they made their schedules, they probably thought this ULL game would be pointless and decided to show up in droves at the FIU game? Let's hope…
Greek Life is not what it used to be. Hell look at the leaders that we used to have in Greek are one of the most supportive of sports…Phil, Rick, Chris, Will, Iowa, Cook…sorry if i missed some.
Greeks have no leadership, only a handful of them actually can tell you what our school colors are. I know SGA is working hard and doing a great job, but it is hard to motivate students that do not want to be motivated.
Sorry Greek life is a touchy subject for me

I have to say that the fans over at the FIU board are usually pretty civil…so I'm not sure where some of those comments are coming from. As for the attendance issue….I don't recall a lot about the 2005 game, probably with good reason, but I can assure you that there were not actually 15,000 people there (LOL). I do remember the 2003 game down at FIU and there were a lot of Owls fans there, likely outnumbering FIU fans. However, FAU was on its way to I-AA playoffs and needed the win, so it drew a lot of interest on our end. It seems like FIU is drawing a lot better this year as the team is playing better and that is to be expected. Also, we are not in any position to talk about attendance after the pathetic turnout last week in a big game against ULL. It is also true that FIU fans should show up in greater numbers for the Shula Bowl game down at Dolphin Stadium. I have never understood why they don't, it is closer to their campus than to ours.

It's the sort of thing that will be a signature of the program in 20 years as long as it keeps up in the new stadium. The rubbing of the rock in Death Valley, the walk through the hedges in Athens…the Fans at the Fence in Boca! I hope it sticks forever
Oy. You know how that's going to play out…
Hutton: "What's going on over there?"
Angelos: "Looks like we have a new tradition forming!"
Us: "Let's make this a new tradition!"
Old guy in the stand: "WHOOOOOOO LET THE OWLSSSSSSS OUTTTTTT WHOO WHOO WHOO"

besides…those are comments made by a handful of fans on most boards, if not all …just as there are numerous posts here putting down FIU…it's just (for good or bad) part of this thing, and fairly normal in these boards, I would say. I don't see anything "disturbing" on those comments, btw. Bad taste? Perhaps. Wrong? Maybe. "Disturbing"? No. Just the way some fans from ALL schools like to post.
Anyways…..there's no doubt in my mind the hottest team in the SBC is FAU right now…You guys are playing, it seems now, up to the level many of us expected prior to this season. Good luck this Saturday….I really, really hope we can both wins our games this week, so that the Shula Bowl could be…finally…played for something big on both sides.

If we could both bring 10k people to the stadium… well, it wouldn't be as rockin' as it would at your place… but it would still be a better audience than last time!

Agreed! But for us to have any possibility of bringing a decent-sized crowd to DS (not sure we can bring in 10k in my estimation), we would have to beat ULM this coming week

what? I am not exaggerating!!! FAU fans were seating in the north area. The same area FIU did not remodeled for the new stadium. The FIU stands were in front of me, and I swear to GOD that there were probably 10 fans from FIU. I am not lying!!!!!! This happened in 2005 when you beat us.
I don't think FIU fans are civil, why not some FAU fans go and kiss some FIU's butt.
