Best way too early guess on wins for 2012?

What is your best guess for FAU wins in the 2012 season?

0-2 wins - Suckdom
3-4 wins - Some progress
5-6 wins - Big Improvement
7-8 wins - Game changing year
9 or more wins - possible poster drug testing required

You must select between 1 and 39 options

With the right guy behind center 10-2 a solid possibilty. Without, maybe 6-6, if that.

10-2 means we beat 1 of the 3 BCS teams and we sweep conference play. Don't really see that happening. Let's actually wait and see how these kids look on the field first. Let's hope they all sign and make it onto campus and none of them get hurt during practice

My two favorite teams are FAU, and who ever is beating FIU!

Well besides the losses on the D, Navy is being hit real hard on the O side too. QB, 2 RB's and 4 OL and their K too. Wish we played them the first game and not in November don't you!

Of the BCS games that we're playing does anyone think maybe we can steal one, Navy??? or at least keep it competitive against them and can stop calling them "Advanced training games"?

I think Navy is 4-0 vs. Belt teams since 09'. It's going to be hard.

Actually I don't want to play them the first game because we need time to jell as a team. That's why that Wagner game is good, lesser opponent will allow us to work on some of the things they do during practice, will allow them to work out the kinks and see what needs adjusting.

Hard to do that against Navy

Yup, and that is why I wish we played them EARLY before they get time to gel. The best news with them is they are never a "big" team so we won't get manhandled like with the usual OOC games and the spread may give them problems too so playing later may come in handy to give our O time to gel too!

Last year - blow out loss, this coming year - who knows?

Exactly. The right QB would be upset that I was conceding the 2 losses.

I think we have a legit shot at beating Navy.  Assignment football is how to contain their option offense.  We definitely will have the speed to keep up and they will not have a size advantage- as the service academies are small.  If everyone stays on their assignment, we can beat them.

Re: Best way too early guess on wins for 2012?

If some of the quick-fix recruits work out, the Owls have a legit shot of winning at Annapolis. As has been pointed out, Navy won't have huge size. However, it will have fast, stong guys who are disciplined. Playing Navy (or Air Force, etc.) requires speed, patience (to defense the option), staying in lanes (option) and very few penalties. If FAU lets Navy win the penalty battle and gets fooled by the option (defensive speed can lead to overpursuit), this will be trouble. It should be a fun game.

No shortage of optimism there.
